Governor Cuomo’s new budget plan could include millions of dollars in state funding to help keep the Bills in the Buffalo region. Cuomo’s list of “critical economic development investments” calls for an effort to insure the future of the NFL’s only native New York State franchise. The Giants and Jets play their home games in New Jersey.

The governor’s initiative would make the Bills eligible for part of an $84 million fund to be shared by several economic development interests. The team’s lease with Erie County expires in 2013. It had been expected that state money would be sought as part of the negotiations. The Bills seek upgrades to Ralph Wilson Stadium upgrades, possibly tied to a no-relocation commitment.
