Mayor Byron W. Brown, joined by Commissioner Steve Stepniak of the Department of Public Works, Parks & Streets and representatives of the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy, announced a $415,000 capital improvement project for the Delaware Park Marcy Casino that comes from funds allocated through the city’s 2008 Capital Budget.
“The Marcy Casino represents an important connection between current social activities occurring throughout the year at this great Delaware Park facility and the rich history of the Olmsted/Vaux imprint on Buffalo’s overall parks system,” said Mayor Brown. “These capital budget monies, drawn from the city’s 2008 Capital Budget, will help make significant improvements to the structure of the Marcy Casino and ensure that it will continue to serve as a great social venue for all city residents, as well as non-city residents, who enjoy Delaware Park.”
The scheduled repair work for the Marcy Casino includes: the replacement of the boat storage area north wall with windows, mandoors and a sectional overhead door; the restoration of stone masonry along the south patio retaining wall; drainage improvements to prevent further wall deteriorations of the Casino; slab replacements at the east entrance of the Casino and repairs to the stone walls flanking it; repairs to the north Casino stairway; and improved draining at the lower plaza level.
