Buffalo 5, NY Islanders 3

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.

On Monday night the Sabres peppered plenty of shots on net to little avail, they did so again tonight with better results as the guys in blue and gold again pelted the net with over forty shots and this time got out of HSBC Arena with a 5-3 win over the Islanders and sending them to their sixth loss in seven games.

Five different players lit the lamp for Buffalo(Drew Stafford and thousands of others may tell you six) and the first two were scored by Sabres who notched their first of the season. Nolan Pratt scored the only goal of the first on a flutterer from the blueline. that Rick Dipietro may not have seen. This would be followed by Toni Lydman’s only goal of the season, a sort of redemption for his two afwul giveaways in the previous game that played a huge role in the loss to the Bruins.

After a dismal swing out WEST for games one and two of their road trip, the Sabres got back on track tonight with a 7-1 victory over the Sharks.

When I was look at standings on NHL.com, a glaring thing that stuck out…before tonight, Buffalo had only one two contests on the road in eleven games…yikes…they have to change that.

The Sabres score seven unanswered goals to rout the Sharks 7-1. Paul Gaustad scored twice, while Ryan Miller stopped 21 shots in the win.Highlights: Sabres @ Sharks Highlights (12/8)

The boys are back in town starting Monday against the Bruins.

Anaheim post mortem

bufsabs.gifHere’s a scenario that would normally be reporter heaven… you are covering the Sabres; no competition as the only other beat reporter covering the game is John Vogl from the News; the Anaheim media contingent is skimpy to begin with and all engaged with their players; the locker room isn’t the labyrinth of side rooms and coves where players duck out like in Buffalo, but just one big room with locker stalls and an adjacent shower. I walk in and nirvana!… 25 hockey players in various stage of undress, and Media Coordinator Chris Bandura beseeching me to please have at it and interview anyone I like. I have the room pretty much to myself.
