Importance of Code Blue to the Street Homeless Population in Buffalo, NY

Holly Rutkowski, Homeless Outreach Supervisor for the Matt Urban Hope Center, speaks about the harsh reality in the winter for the street homeless in Buffalo, NY and the importance of outreach workers and Code Blue. A Code Blue is called anytime temperatures reach 15 or below, the Buffalo City Mission and St. Luke's Mission of Mercy opens their door for people in search of a warm place to stay, a cot to sleep on and a hot meal. The warming centers are open 8 pm to 8 am every night during the Code Blue. A team of outreach workers goes out in a van to pick up and transport the homeless to these locations.
