Dave Hannan Open Thread: Sabres at Bruins

Yeah, it’s Dave Hannan.

Look, I know that Rene Robert wore No. 14.  I know the role he played as one of the “French Connection,” and I know his number is in the rafters.

Still, with all the hockey I watched as a kid I never saw Robert do something as exciting as this:

As for last night, that was definitely the Sabres of last year who showed up.  The top-two lines were nearly invisible, and I thought they played their usual soft game of avoiding going into the corners and giving up the puck rather than take a hit to make a play.  Unfortunately, our third-and-fourth lines were willing to make those plays, it’s just that they lack the ability to finish them on a consistent basis.

I call it the “Derek Roy Syndrome” and it was out in force last night.  Let’s hope they are willing to pay a price tonight.

I did like how Derek Roy called out himself and the team at intermission for Derek Roy Syndrome. Rayzor asked him how it felt to score in back to back games and he didn’t even bother with the question.

  2. Rene Rancourt has to be the worst singer of all time. He’s horrible.

just caught the last few minutes – what’s going on?

They decided not to have the game, it’s just a re-run from last night.

Unrelated – Does this Canalside advert smell like bullshit to anyone else?

perhaps just a bit of ‘coming back to reality’ for the Sabres…take a picture of the standings while you can.I’ve been watching a shitload of hockey the past few weeks. Buffalo has looked above average but not great. I’m just happy they got a handful of points now…

WTH is wrong with the Sabres and the month of November? At least the Buckeyes won and the Bills can’t loose.

The only reason why boston won this game was becuase they were more rested then the sabres. You see… Boston played thursday, not friday, But the sabres played friday. so who would win… the team who played thursday or the team who played the night before. I’m a sabre fan but this is what I feel is the reason.

November is going to be the worst month this season becuase 8 out of the 12 games we paly this month are back to back games. and we are not the good in back to back games.

Rene Robert’s OT goal in 1973 on Montreal ice for many years was “the goal” that stood alone in Sabres’ lore. Buff eventually lost the series, but winning that game cast them as a serious up and coming team. It was a radio highlight for years. Wonder if someone’s managed to dredge up film of that?
