Mike Foligno Open Thread: Sabres at Flyers

Amazing what a difference some effort makes!  After snoozing through a 3-1 win against Edmonton Wednesday night, Buffalo came out and looked like they actually cared last night in their 2-1 shootout win over Calgary.

Maybe it was the ususal Friday night energy of the crowd, but the Sabres were physical against a very phsical team, and showed that they can inded play that style when they wish.

But can they do it two nights in a row?  Philly has owned them of late, and they should want this game far more than last night’s.

As for Mike Foligno, I really wanted to dislike him when he came over from Detroit in a large trade, the keystone of which was Danny Gare.  But you couldn’t dislike him.  Not with his hard (and crooked)-nosed attitude, his scoring ability, his willingness to brawl, and, of course, his patented post-goal jump.

And here is is puching out known douchebag Terry O’Reilly.

Apparently everyone else has a life eh? Good on Goose for giving it right back to Pronger.

  2. Becky says:

    No life here either.

nhl.com has attributed the second goal to Tyler Ennis. Quite the shot from Portland or thereabouts.

  3. Jeanne says:

As much fun as last night’s game was, I am really enjoying this one! Great for Ennis!!

Looked liike O’Reilly did most of the punching there …. word up, i was at a PA Turnpike stop tonite and a buncha guys were there wearing Sabres garb, assuming they were on the way to the gamne. Didn’t get a chabnce to chat.

Just turned the game on, but it’s a commercial. What’s the score and how are we looking tonight?

  6. Jeanne says:

We look good – up 2-0 thanks to Vanek and Ennis.

  7. Wolf says:

Ennis??? Did they call him up?

  8. Wolf says:

Only Flyers fans would boo an injured player.

  9. Wolf says:

    SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!

  10. Becky says:

Could you tell I haven’t been paying close attention to the television? Ennis!!! Cool.

  11. Wolf says:

Becky – Goose scored. My “Ennis” comment was in reply to Jeanne’s comment.

  12. Wolf says:

    DAMMIT! I hate the Flyers.

  13. Becky says:

Ennis scored the second one; I had thought nhl.com had the wrong Tyler.

Meanwhile, our power play sucks. Last night at the game the prevailing opinion was that if the refs wanted to punish the Sabres, they should give us power plays instead of penalties.

  15. Wolf says:

Kaleta came flying out of the clouds??? Is RJ drinking tonight?

  16. Cryptkicker says:

We won with a less than stellar power play unit. A unit that got a minus one for giving up a shorthanded goal. Do you want to penalize Buffalo, give’m a power play.

  17. Johnny Hardrock says:

CK, the Sabres scored two power play goals…

  18. Cryptkicker says:

I know that, I just got aggravated because the power play so totally fell apart on the shorthanded goal that it wiped away all the good they had before. You could just see a goal coming up and couldn’t change it.

  19. Johnny Hardrock says:

I agree with you. I thought Connolly was awful there. 3 times he tried to carry the puck in and turned it over. Within a matter of about 20 seconds. Just awful.

  20. trevor says:

stafford out with a hip flexor? i call bullshit. i went back and watched the tape from last night at he was on the ice with 30 secs left, sitting on the boards all cool-like, etc. bitch twisted an ankle outside mr. goodbar after the game..

Did I miss something? Do we no longer like Staff?

  22. Jack says:

This is Ennis fist year in the NHL right. So first game= first goal. I would like to see him play more. Maybe the sabres should bring up more rookies from portland, because they seem to score.

    So we have this week…
Wensday- Florida Panthers (home game) 7:00pm est
Friday- Boston Bruins (home game) 7:30pm est
Saturday- Ottawa Senators (away game) 7:00pm est
I know we can beat Florida, and Boston, cause the Sabres will play Miller. But for Saturday, I don’t know, first game against the Senators, the Sabres will have to put Lalime in, also the Senators are playing thursday and saturday. Not friday. So they will be more rested but not enough because they play Toronto, tuesday, Pittsburgh on thursday, and the sabres saturday. so they have a tougher week then us even though they don’t play a back to back game.

  24. jan says:

Miller stole the game from Calgary last Friday. Good to see Ennis do a nice job filling in– he understands when you shoot the puck towards the net, good things can happen. They should not understimate the Panthers, Bruins, or the Sens. Would Lalime be in goal against the Panthers?? I’d love to see this team take 6 more points this weekend, but it’ll depend on every player playing with some intensity, heart, (and by Saturday, guts and determination), Makes you wonder now that Lydman is healthy and this team has 8 defensemen, which defensemen will elevate their game in order to keep playing. Someone messes up, there’s guys in the press box who would be glad to take their spot. BTW, what will they do with Paetsch??
