Hobey Baker Finalists

As Brendan mentioned in the comments from the previous post, the 10 Hobey Baker
finalists were announced yesterday:

  • Nathan Gerbe, Boston College
  • Ryan Jones, Miami
  • Lee Jubinville, Princeton
  • Simon Lambert, RIT
  • Jean-Philippe Lamoureux, North Dakota
  • Ryan Lasch, St. Cloud State
  • Jeff Lerg, Michigan State
  • T.J. Oshie, North Dakota
  • Kevin Porter, Michigan
  • Kevin Regan, New Hampshire

For the apparently large-sized contingent of RIT alumni and Rochester ex-pats on this site, seeing Simon Lambert on the list is pretty damn nice. As the linked article states, his 51 points in 37 games was tied for third in the whole nation… not bad for a guy recruited back when RIT was D-III!

In addition, sharp-eyed Sabre fans will notice that the team’s 5th-round pick from 2005, Nathan Gerbe, is also on the list. His 52 points (including 27 goals in 37 GP) placed him 2nd in the nation in scoring. Given that he’s finishing his junior year and is going to turn 21 over the summer, I can’t see how he doesn’t become an Amerk AHLer next year.

I’ve seen Nathan Gerbe play a few games this year – he’s a hand full of piss & vinegar – I’d love to see him dress for Buffalo not, Rochester or whatever ranch the sabres farm hands wrangle at next year (Portland, ME????) – good Shipyard Brewery, I guess a step up from Gen-assie Creamies.
Gerbe’s very small for the NHL, skate him w/ Goose and they both get 20+ (I’ll bet a whole dollar and 39 cents on that!)

Saw TJ Ochie play X-mas tourney in 06′ at dartmouth – look out when he laces them up for St. Louis – he’s fast and can handle the puck, he’ll make St Lou instantly better.

PS – Got freakin delayed leaving Beijing; 3hrs on the tarmac, 12+ in the air, missed the Manchester, NH leg – one more night – stayed in the O’Hare Hilton on my dime. Couldn’t stand in line for ~1.5 hrs to get a voucher, I just couldn’t do it. Happy Damn long weekend.

Chinese airport security (TSA type folks) found the dinner fork I’ve carrying in my brief case for the past three weeks.
The lady said something to the guy working the X-Ray unit, she laughed and handed it back to me – I think she said “dumb american, three weeks and he still needs a sippy-cup!”

To update the Gerbe watch, he was voted the Hockey East tourney MVP and to the all-tourney team as BC won its second consecutive and 8th overall Hockey East title Saturday with a 4-0 win over Vermont. Gerbe assisted on the first goal with a nice rush from his own blue line and set-up pass as he cut across the slot. He also added a tip-in empty net goal. Gerbe also had 3 assists in BC’s 5-4 three overtime (5-hr.) marathon win over UNH the night before. He finished the game -1. It was the longest game in Hockey East tourney history.

  3. Jesse H. says:

Hey, speaking of possible Sabres farm teams, does any know if Hamilton could be the new location?

  4. Brendan says:

Jesse – I doubt that Montreal would be interested in sharing their farm team with us. Not sure how I feel sharing a farm team with Montreal for that matter.

  5. Mark M. says:

How strange is it going to be when the Amerks are NOT the Buffalo farm team? Some things in sports just make sense – a Rochester/Buffalo relationship is one of those things.

  6. SayOw says:

    Jean-Philippe Lamoureux
    FTW

Oshie played well this year but J.P. Lamoureux is a boy from the barren wasteland so I got to pull for him…

    Go Sioux!
