Sabres fans can breathe easier this morning, as Buffalo signed Paul Gaustad to a four-year deal worth $9.2 million. Gaustad is one of those players that we Sabres fans usually get behind. Rarely takes a game off, works hard, good on draws, doesn’t mind getting physical. In fact, he’s exactly what Buffalo needs about two or three more of.
So, well done by both sides. Gaustad gets a little financial security and the Sabres wrap up a player they need. And Gaustad giving up three years of unrestricted status says something as well. There has to be a letter on his sweater this season, right?
And finally, a contract I didn’t badly underestimate.
Think these guys are happy? It’s not easy renaming a blog, you know.

I like Gaustad. Who doesn’t.
2 or 3 is exactly what we don’t need though. It was painful last year wathcing him try to play on the PP. He is only slightly better on the penalty kill. He is what you want in a third line center, no doubt, but I’ll take just one 3rd line center.
I have no problem with a letter. I like him for the C more than Poms or Roy.

Two or three more of in terms of work ethic and willingness to be physical is where I was coming from.
I think Darcy’s finally realizing this is where we need to go. Mair and Goose will be together for at least two more years; Bernier will probably sign for four; and once we pick up Commodore we’ll have some punch down low.
