It seems like there is an epidemic of bad luck running through the NFL this year.
We all know about Tom Brady. Too bad, and all. Seems like a nice enough guy, he just happens to be the QB of a team (and head coach) I hate. So it’s hard too work up too much sympathy.
And what about Vince Young? First, we hear he’s got the bum MCL, but you have to wonder what kind of head-case we’re dealing with here. First, he was accused of bailing on his teammates after getting booed by the home crowd. Then he disappears after making puzzling statements to family members – puzzling enough that they alerted Jeff Fisher, who alerted local authorities, who issued an APB for him. But it’s OK! He was just watching some football with his agent (of course). Remember the rumors on NFL.com that VY thought “long and hard” of retiring following the 2007 season? This is the kind of stuff that just destroys a team.
And finally, the Bills opponent next week, the Jacksonville Jaguars, are hurting on the O-Line. Not only has their starting center been out since the beginning of training camp, but they will be down both of their starting guards this weekend. Guard Vince Manuwai is out for the season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee Sunday, and guard Maurice Williams could be sidelined at least two months after rupturing his right biceps. Their starters are now Uche Nawanei, a second-year pro from Purdue, and Tutan Reyes, who hadn’t played since he was with the Bills in 2006. They added some depth by signing guard Milford Brown and tackle Chad Slaughter yesterday. Slaughter has been out of football for over a year. Their only other healthy offensive lineman is tackle Charles Spencer, who was signed last week.
Even Ben Roethlisberger is a little banged up.
Could this be the karmic makeup call for all our injuries the past two years?

lots of crocodile tears in New England-land over Tom Terrific’s knee problem – as a “flatlander” (someone not from here who lives here) along with the others who hail from nether-regions, we are having a ball rubbing it in.
recall the NE D-lineman who stumbled into Losman’s knee on opening day last year? payback is a bitch.
gotta go pick up my sham-WOW to clean up the teary mess
NE didn’t move fast enough to sign Chris Simms. Tennessee already got him. Young might be off a while, for one reason or another.
Don’t forget Shawne Merriman from San Diego, he’s got some toys in the attic like Vince Young. Bad knee? Not to worry, play on! Well, good luck with that!
Yep, VT Tom has it right, good thing that Sham WOW is so absorbant (you know the Germans always make good stuff), i can’t stop crying over Brady being out, and now half of Jacksonville’s O-line. Nice to see the rest of the league is being served up a nice steaming hot bowl of IR stew, first sampled by the Bills in 2007!
Eat hearty!
Merriman is done. NE actually only half ass brought in Simms and then told him to go home. They’re “happy” with Cassell. Young’s mom said he’s done with football. ($$$ talks though.) Colston is out for a 6 weeks. Brian Griese is TB’s starter.
I don’t know that ‘karmic’ was the right word…
Maybe just statistical makeup?
Hey, it could be worse.
We could have just signed Eric Staal to a 7 year/$57 million contract.
So I post in comments here on Sunday that I think that Tom Brady’s career longevity isn’t likely to be as long as many think, and about an hour later his season ends. Hmmmmm. How to use this newfound power to affect the future by commenting on a blog?
Jaquandor, could you predict that my in-Laws will move out of my house this weekend?
