This article was not only immature and ill worded, but incredibly rude. it makes me sick to my stomache to think that a grown man like yourself, Andrew, could even write such a thing. Mr. Tony Dungy lost his son, and you seem to think its okay since Tony supports heterosexual marriage?
I hope that Hell is a real place so that you can spend an eternity there.
and C although I do not consider myself religous, what you said was ten times more mature and sensible than anything Mr. Kulyk chose to accuse Tony, christians, and ulitimately God of.

Anyone who knows Tony Dungy knows that if his son was gay, he would have loved him just the same. He wouldn’t have judged him at all. So stop all this stuff about him being gay and killing himself because of his Dad’s faith. Christians aren’t perfect, just forgiven. It’s not a sin to be gay, just to act on it, just like the millions of other sins out there. Christians don’t hate gay people. We just believe that God’s word is true–acting on your gay feelings is a sin.(God said it in the Bible, not me. Argue with Him.) But we’re all sinners, so we don’t think any less of you for being gay. We sin too, everyday. In order to be reconnected to God, we have to go through His Son, Jesus Christ. God can’t co-exist with sin. He is too holy. So He sent His Son to take our sins. All you have to do is believe this. And you know what, if you’re right and there is no such thing, oh well. But if I’m right, then you spend eternity in Hell. Have you ever been wrong about anything? We all have, haven’t we? This would not be a good time for you to be wrong, would it?

As a close friend of James Dungy, I feel compelled to inform you that he was not gay.

I was on the phone with him less than an hour before his death. My friend Alex (one of the pallbearers at his funeral) and I had him on speakerphone, telling him that he should come out and chill with us. He told us he’d call us the next day around noon. At 11:30, Alex notified me by phone of James’ death.

I respect Tony Dungy as a man.I don’t think its fair to speculate as to why James killed himself. There could be so many reasons why. Why is the assumption as homosexual!!!

Suicide is a manifestation of mental illness. Mental illness, just like other diseases, are forces that act on an individual independent of the individual’s control. There is no universal threshold of environmental influence that is powerful enough to cause suicide. Just as it would be unfair to blame an individual for having a heart attack or a stroke, it is unfair to find a cause and effect relationship to explain how mental illness can cause death.

I just heard about him and I do think he may have been gay too. The suicide rate for young gay people is higher than for heterosexuals. Now that I see what his dad believed, I can see he may have thought he’d never be accepted by his dad and family. Also, the young man was apparently “into” being Christian as well. So if he realized he was gay, he may have been devastated enough to kil himself. RIP.
