Buffalo continues to have one of it’s best fall lineups in years. Just over the past few weeks we’ve seen, moe., Mike Gordon, STS9, and now the electronic, progressive, instrumental sensation Lotus at the Town Ballroom in Buffalo, NY.

Lotus laid down the funk with sexy improvisational grooves that kept heads bouncing and feet moving all night. This was Lotus’s first time playing at the larger Town Ballroom a sign that the band is on the rise as it continues to break in new fans and keep the old ones coming back.
Lotus’s music spans so many genres it’s hard to peg them as simply a rock band or a jam band. Their organic rock/jazz roots are interwoven with electronic beats that transform their shows from a tripped out rock show to an electronic dance party in the blink of an eye.
I was most impressed with the light rig that the band is currently touring with. It’s unique as it is impressive with a series of vertical bars behind the band that flash and flicker with the instrumental change ups and improvs. This visual effect looks like something out 2001’s Space Odyssey. These lights mixed with the bands psychedelic jams produced a visual and audio organism that is not easy to produce.
The band is currently on a fall tour in support of their latest EP Oil on Glass/Feather on Wood Check out their website to find a show in a city near you.
Thanks to Seth Nochajski for another great recording:
