Via the Buffalo Sabres:
Buffalo Sabres GM Darcy Regier announced today the Sabres have assigned goaltender Adam Dennis to Portland (AHL), and returned defenseman Tyler Myers to Kelowna of the Western Hockey League.
I loved the fact that Myers logged some ice time in the preseason. Hopefully he saw the speed with which the game is played, and can use that daily in Kelowna while dedicating himself to being in Buffalo in two seasons. It sure would be nice if he could spend one year in juniors, then one year in Rochester Portland before making the jump to the big club. With his frame, it may take him that long just to fill out.
On a completely unrelated note, I see the Sabres have signed a five-year deal to make Coke the exclusive soft drink provider at HSBC. All I can say is “yuck.” This in one of the few cities in America where the demographics are overwhelmingly “Pepsi.” Of course, neither Coke nor Pepsi are my beverage of choice at Sabres games, so I suppose it doesn’t matter much to me which way they go on this one.

I’m more a coke man myself so thats nice. But really Coke or Pepsi doesn’t matter.
What matters is how much more money they get from Coke to use their product. Every dollar counts.
TJ Brennan is still in Juniors, I think its a couple years till we see Tyler Myers even think about cracking the lineup.
“then one year in Rochester before making the jump to the big club.”
I have a feeling Sabres fans will be making this mistake for a long time! It just sounds odd to talk about Portland as our farm team, doesn’t it?
Good catch, Chris. You’re totally right – I may never get used to it.
why is there a line through everything?
This reminds me of one of my all time terrible jokes at a St. Pattys day after-party. Somebody brought over a boozed up skank they picked up at the parade. She asked the room, “Does anybody have any coke?”
“Sorry,” I replied, “This is more of a Pepsi town.”
I’m a big fan of Sprite so I’m not disappointed by this.
I’ll bet Peters is on that 32 man roster, isn’t he?
And as long as they still serve Labatts, who gives a shit about the pop?
Myers is better off playing somewhere than ending up sitting in the press box in Portland. He had the opportunity to find out what skills he has to have to play for the Sabres. If he truly wants to play in the NHL, he has to pay attention to what skills coaches want him to improve, etc. He should have had some time to talk to players such as Paul Gaustad and Jason Pominville — guys who worked really hard at each level they played to move to the AHL, then NHL.
BTW, why is Andrew Peters still with this team??
I watched a lot of the current(and some future) Sabres play in Rochester for many years — it’s going to be hard not watching Gerbe, Kennedy, etc. learn how to play at the AHL level and then come to Buffalo to watch them as NHL’ers.
you said it wolf
I always love news about former Bills players…

Back up to 33 now.
Buffalo Sabres GM Darcy Regier announced today the Sabres have claimed LW Matt Ellis off waivers from the Los Angeles Kings.
Ellis (8/31/1981, 6’, 207 lbs.) split last season between Detroit and Los Angeles, picking up eight points (3+5) in 54 games. He started the season with the Red Wings, but was claimed off waivers by the Kings on February 21/08. Ellis has eight points in 70 career NHL games.

A winger with 8 points in 70 career games???? I could get more points pushing a shopping cart through Wegmans! He’d better be another Rob Ray! Maybe this means no more Peters? Dare I dream?
Actually, I just looked at his stats from minors. They’re not bad. He must have gotten ZERO playing time in those 70 NHL games.
he will at least be a stopgap for Mair/Goose until they are healthy.
Thanks for the update twoeightnine. Hopefully Ellis isn’t just a reach by a team already lacking in size, now missing the Goose. Sometimes you get lucky, and the guy may come in and be a pleasant find. New team/new surroundings can have that effect on a player’s career.
Gotta agree, coke, pepsi, not my concern, so long as those hot girls on skates keep on delivering the Labatts…
This is blasphemous to many “old time” Buffalo hockey fans. For those not old enough to remember life before the Buffalo Sabres, there was a minor league hockey team stationed in Buffalo at the old Aud. They were the Buffalo Bisons. Look at one of their jerseys with what looks like a Pepsi Cola bottle cap on the front at the following URL:

I saw the signing and assumed it was for Portland.
“Say, there, barkeep..could I get one of them rum and pepsis?”
Pepsi sucks.
I too went to a pre-season game the other night with my 7 yr old son 3 rows behind Miller surrounded by 400 Maple Leaf fans (which with the language being used between Sabres and Leafs fans I might as well had him at a Bills game in the end zone), … and nothing could have been finer than the leafs pulling their now regular game ending crumbling act even in a pre-season game. I liked Myers skating ability a lot, very smooth for a 6′7″ guy but he was a bit loose with the puck which will come…he’s going to be real good though. Now that we have Rivet we don’t need Andrew ‘the Puncher of Air’ Peters, Rivet is going to clean up the front of the net gentleman, and everything else going on that needs his attention. One last note, anyone watch Durey last night ‘will’ back the Rangers over in Swizterland to a 4-3 win vs the Russian league champion, that boys a winner…if only, if only.
So, how about that Lee Evans signing??
Further aside: do the Blue Jackets really have a player named ‘Clitsome’.
