I have to admit, reading this latest (and last) FJM post made me “as disappointed as I’d be if I set out to construct a hot fudge sundae and discovered I was out of whipped cream.”
After 21 years, and almost 40 million posts (we’ll have to check those numbers, but it’s something like that), we have decided to bring FJM to an end.
It’s no secret that I’ve been a fan of FJM for a while. I have to admit that before I came across their site, it was easy to not question the legions of baseball talking heads who put too much value in Batting Average and Wins (for pitchers, not teams). It was from them that I first heard about OBP, WHIP, and other reasonable, factual metrics by which to assess baseball performance. As someone who “enjoys” thinking, it was a welcome revelation. And the fact that they were hilarious didn’t hurt.
So here’s a final tip of the Hat to Ken, dak, and Junior. Snarky baseball meta-criticism won’t be the same without you.
Great, now who in the blogosphere will put out snarky, fact-based diatribes against the MSM?
A sad, sad day indeed.
Fact based rules out just about everyone I know.
They had kind of falled off recently – it almost seemed like they were doing it just to do it, and it seemed…..forced.
Personally, they pulled the plug at the right time. But man, they were among the best on the Web.
Damn, that sucks. I like FJM almost as much as I like this blog. (*gurgle, gurgle, slooop*)
I had to stop watching baseball because of FJM. And also because it’s boring as shit.
That was, by far, their worst update ev-er.
They didn’t just raise the bar for criticizing the old guard MSM, they set the bar.
Worst news ever*.
(*may be a slight exaggeration)
