I’m looking forward to having Sundays free for the next three years. Seriously Ralphie, don’t you want to make the playoffs at least one more time before you croak? It’s coming soon. You just got 40 million Loonies, use that to buy out Dick’s contract. It’ll cost you what, $90,000?

Schefter reports the Bills are “cash-strapped”. We may be small market, but we don’t have a profitability or cash flow issue. One problem the organization DOESN’T have is being cash strapped. Since the Bills pay very little in interest every year, receive revenue sharing and sell out every game (and sell games for $9M each), the money isn’t the issue.
It’s the wherewithal. This offseason is going to be very interesting. Next year’s schedule is going to be a lot harder. We play the AFC South, NFC South, the Chiefs and the Bengals. Ouch.
Chris,
I find your insight to be… insightful?
What makes you think they don’t have a profitability or cash flow issue? I would say that all signs point to exactly that. Unless I’m missing something…
I had a good conversation coming back to the hotel from our Chengdu plant regarding the once fine ales and beers that came from our neighbors to the north – there’s no longer any ‘good canadian beers’ so this Habs fan from Montreal exlaimed. I have to agree – “it’s all about cookie cutters” that can produce the most return on an investment – I don’t begrudge ralphie for his want to move HIS business to some other climes, he can do whatever the fuck he wants (remember the free country bullshit?). I do begrudge his lack of commitment and loyalty to WNY. Those who said ‘how high?’ when he said jump – I want my elderly mother’s tax dollars returned for his “field house” he had to have to stay ‘competative’. I guess 6 and 10 is competative????
Fuck stick!
I heard George Carlin say in the mid-70’s
“We’ll all be a suppressed event in a Chinese history book someday”
I know this to be true…
Dick Jauron is not to blame for losing that game. He did what people asked him to do. Be aggresive. You have to blame Losman for not having the awareness to get rid of the ball. Granted, not a huge fan of Jauron being here for another three years but the options that are out there aren’t much better.
We asked him to be aggressive when the situation calls for it (such as having the ball at the 40 with 30 seconds to go before halftime). Instead of calling the same draw play he has for years, perhaps he might be aggressive and try passing the ball. Or he could have been aggressive once the Bills got the ball back with 1:20 and needing a touchdown and trying, for example, a pass > 5 yards if he’s going to go over the middle.
However, when you’ve got a back averaging 6 yards a carry, 2nd and five, running out the clock, a QB with no pocket sense and prone to fumbling – it’s not aggressive. It’s inexcusable incompetence.
Could not believe they were passing in that situation. I don’t care if the running play goes for nothing – it still runs 35 seconds off the clock. Third down, same thing there’s another 35 seconds and the game is nearly won even if you don’t do anything.
Amazing.
Ben:
- They sell out every game.
- They receive revenue sharing.
- They receive enough money from TV deals to nearly pay the entire roster.
- They just bilked a shitload of money out of Ted Rogers.
How can there be signs pointing to a lack of money?
The Bills have the 7th highest operating income in the NFL. There’s also the fact that they play in the NFL not the NHL.
Don’t forget that the Bills don’t have the kind of long term debt obligations carried by other franchises for either team purchase or stadium construction.
How about we split the difference and agree that:
1) Dick Jauron is a total nimrod for sending in that play call. It’s a genuine shame that we’re stuck with him for 3 more years because that lost and dazed look he was sporting after the shit hit the fan at 3:57 EST* yesterday was priceless, and dispiriting.
and
2)JP Loss-man is a total fucking idiot and just not up to snuff for playing in this NFL. He just doesn’t have the stuff, and it’s a goddamned shame…. THAT WE HAD TO BE THE ONES TO DRAFT HIS STUPID ASS.
* Please note: I totally pulled that “exact” time out of my ass as I was too busy jumping and speaking in tongues to take note of the goddamned time.
Love that comment about speaking in tongues! I was doing the same. Actually it was impressive how the Bills managed to lure me back in. I had divested myself emotionally from their fate. Lately I watch the game as I’m doing other things around the house or working on the computer. This has been the case since they lost to Cleveland. But, they showed grit and took the lead against the Jets. They regained the lead, held it deep into the second quarter. The way Lynch was running it was impossible not to be inspired.
I walked into the trap. Jauron, Schonert (whomever actually made that play selection, picked up the rusty knife, and plunged it into my chest yet again!
We all know J.P. has no pocket presence. He fumbles, and he does not think on his feet. The guy that stripped the ball from him initially put his hand on Losman’s shoulder….shouldn’t he have instictively tucked the ball and protected it? Isn’t that a no brainer? The game was safely in the hands of Lynch…he was in full out beast mode. We’d have run out the clock…I almost think the Jets called that time out at 2:06 remaining to give the Bills time to remember that they stink, and should devise a way to screw up…
