Admit it. Sometime yesterday, between the hours of 4 pm and 5 pm, you went online, or checked the magnet on your refrigerator, or maybe even pulled a piece of paper out of your wallet. And you checked the upcoming Bills schedule, just to confirm what you thought. And there you saw:
9/21: Oakland Raiders
9/28: @ St. Louis Rams
10/5: Arizona Cardinals
And you clicked it off, just like that: 3-0, 4-0, 5-0. 5-0!!!! My God, the Bills could be 5-0 headed into the bye!
Sure – they could be. We don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves since there are no gimmes’ in the NFL, but it is possible. I’m not here to harsh your Bills mellow, so I won’t even bring up the last time the Bills started out 2-0, but isn’t it at least fun to be talking about it?
To me, that’s why the results from yesterday coupled with what is coming up in the next few weeks has me feeling so positive. When was the last time this city was truly excited about it’s football team? For pretty much all of the last decade we’ve hit Week Two thinking “hey, if we can just string a couple-three wins together, we’re right back in it!” But now, we have honest-to-God hope that the Bills will be playing games that matter in December. Of course, that could all come crashing down next Sunday with an ugly loss or a key injury, but that’s football. For the first time in a long time, the Bills are relevant in Buffalo. In a couple weeks, I think they will be relevant in the NFL as well.

We’ll be at Arizona on 5 October, and I have a feeling that game will not exactly be a gimme…though their schedule the next 4 weeks is @Skins, @Giants, v.Buf and v.Dallas.
I’ll be ecstatic with 4-1. Trent Edwards appears to be the real deal…
5 – 0, with two conference wins and zero division wins…
That would interesting.
If the Bills are 5-0 at the bye. People might forget about the Sabres. Or at least not be that interested. It just seems people have been eager for the Sabres the past few years.
Its been a long time since we could be excited this early about the team.
In the interest of my own sanity, I refuse to admit this team is any good until at least week 8.
The flip side of having an easy schedule is it’s tough to gauge what we’d do against a quality opponent. I’m not drinking anything resembling Kool Aid until that San Diego game as much as I want to.
“People might forget about the Sabres.”
what planet are you livin on???
The planet where the Sabres were non topic until January until a few years ago.
After the lockout they were 14th in attendance and averaged 16,900 a game. 20th in 2004, 27th in 2003, 14th in 2002.
I’m with Jon Splett. I refuse to get my hopes up. I want to see them win a couple of division games. If they can pull out wins in weeks 8, 9, and 10, which shouldn’t be hard in this division this year, I’ll be extrememly optimistic. Until then, I’ll be what I’ve been conditioned to be for the last 10-plus years… worried.
Jonathan – I think there might have been some extenuating circumstances back in 2003, don’t you think?
An owner who embezzles from the stockholders and fans usually doesn’t get much support, even after the NHL takes over the team and trades away every viable player.
i’m with Jonathan on this one. it seems to me that the sabres are a hot topic when a.) they are good and b.) the bills aren’t. if the sabres aren’t any good, or if the bills are legitimately a playoff team, hockey goes on the back burner – at least in the mainstream media.
it will be interesting to see how the coverage and fan interest leans this season as it may be the first time since…1999(?) where the sabres and bills are actually pretty good in the same year.
Let the Bills be good – more tickets for us Sabres fans who either can’t afford season tickets or live in Rochester where season tickets aren’t practical. I’m looking forward to buying tickets Saturday morning and not having the games I want all sold out in 20 minutes….it comes with the added bonus of actually getting to pay at or near face value when we want to go!
So for that: Go Bills!
It’s still too early to call on the Sabres’ coverage (or lack thereof) in TBN or any other MSM outlet though. Although I think it’s a good thing – less of Bucky and Jerry on the Sabres, the better.
Let us not get too crazy here; enjoy the victory. That was a very well played game (coached pretty well, too).
Being a fan from Erie, PA, I particularly enjoyed the play of Ashton Youboty, or translated in this area, Bob Sanders, jr..
He made me forget the poor tackling of some others on the field; this guy has the ‘it’ factor nailed. Picked his spots and time when it was needed.
Don’t forget that Oakland does have a bit of a running game, although Al Davis might not know. Genuine nut case. Go Bills
Lets hope the Bills crush the Raiders. I’d like to expedite the hiring of a replacement for Greg Robinson at Syracuse.

Check out Beast Mode’s picture…shows Hardy’s TD also.

That game Saturday was painful to watch…
Why would you watch an SU game? It’s like S&M. But worse.
This is off subject, but…how many times can a team grab the opponent’s face mask??? Geez the Cowboys are dirty!
It’s a happy time in Bills-land, but I’ve gotta remain a pessimist: Seattle and Jags were both playoff-teams, but both deeply flawed when we played them. These next three games won’t tell the tale either, since all three teams suck. Perhaps all we can do is measure the bills against the spread — covering all three times would tell us something leading into that San Diego game…but, until that time, we won’t really know what kind of team this is.
