PresCo needs Docents

Haven’t you always wanted to become an architecture docent?

Would you like to introduce visitors and Buffalonians to the history and architecture of our fair city? Would you like to guide tours of Buffalo?

This summer, the Preservation Coalition and Landmark Society will jointly present a tour series of Lincoln Parkway, the Larkin Estate, the exterior of the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, and several other neighboring sites. Each will be its own tour, a 45-minute walk to run before Shakespeare in the Park and after jazz at the Albright-Knox. To do this, we will need lots of enthusiastic docents. Beginning February 11, we will offer a ten-week docent training and certification course. The objective of the course is that the docent trainee will be able to deliver these architectural tours with adequate knowledge of the architecture and history, basic skills as a guide, and not least of all confidence.

Classes will meet on Saturdays at the Historical Society from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. There will be a class fee of $50 which will cover the required textbook, a docent baseball cap, handouts, and other expenses of the course. Membership in either the Preservation Coalition or Landmark Society is also required.

If you are interested in this course, please contact Denise Prince at princed@ecc.edu or 834-3844. Advance registration is required.
