As Spitzer’s nomination is complete, the lights dim.

The AG reminds us that New York has been in the vanguard of progress and change since the day the country began. He then describes his humble beginnings, his family’s values, and the fact that he is the embodiment of the American Dream. “This will be our New York once again”.
High property taxes are driving people away. Medical costs are too high, and Medicaid is blowing a hole in our budget. Schools are failing – only 6/10 graduate from HS, and of those, 4/10 of HS graduates go on to college.
“Some get the tax breaks, others get the tax bills”.
Ours is a crisis of leadership, of accountability.

In the years to come, the only distinction they’ll be remembered for is the fact that nobody has ever done so much for so few who need so little.
Mentioning a powerful NY lawyer under investigation by the AG, Spitzer recounts how he told him to watch out because they “have powerful friends”.
Spitzer says he has his own powerful friends:
The men and women of this state who work and struggle each day to give their children a better life than they had.
Wasteful, secretive state authorities will no longer be able to keep from us how much money they’re spending and borrowing. No more unqualified cronies in state jobs – he’ll hire only qualified people.
