Hoyt replies to the rumors:
Hoyt dispels rumor of early departure
Assemblymember Sam Hoyt (D-Buffalo, Grand Island) swept aside rumors he will be leaving office prematurely for an appointed position in state government.
Hoyt said, “I could not be more enthusiastic about working this year as a leader in the State Assembly alongside a forward thinking governor like Eliot Spitzer. Our new Governor needs strong, tenured allies in the Legislature, and I intend to be one of them. There is a feeling of passion and optimism in the halls of the State Capital and I know we can harness that passion for the betterment of Western New York. This session we’re going to tackle the problems of Western New York with a genuine partner in the Executive Branch, and help pass the progressive policies he will begin proposing on ‘Day One.’ Not only do I plan to stay in the Assembly, but with the ambitious Western New York agenda I have put together, I expect the next two years to be my most productive ever.”
Hoyt explained he felt compelled to make the clarification in the wake of a series of rumors that have appeared in local political websites.
Hoyt added, “I’m not sure how these rumors about my stepping down started, but I wanted to put an end to them. Let me be clear – I’m not going anywhere but back to Albany to continue fighting for my district and my City. Buffalo and Grand Island deserve and need a tenured champion in the State Assembly and I am that champion.â€
Hoyt concluded, “I am tremendously grateful for the overwhelming show of support that the people of Buffalo and Grand Island gave me to continue working on their behalf in Albany. I take that responsibility very seriously. I reflect every day on what a wonderful opportunity this community has entrusted in me to make Western New York a better place to live, work and raise a family. While I commute to Albany for work, my heart is always back home in Buffalo, Grand Island and Erie County. That’s never going to change.â€
Sam Hoyt has proudly represented the 144th Assembly District for over a decade and has been a leader in the fight to reform Albany and to revitalize Buffalo. He was re-elected in November in a landslide victory by a margin of over 75%.
