Reynolds barks at NPR's Inskeep

To those who plead to me in comments what a sweet, lovable guy Tom Reynolds is because they know him, I offer this interview with NPR.

You see, although the President is the Commander-in-Chief and has authority to conduct wars, the Congress is not supposed to just sit back and smoke a big fatty while billions are being spent and thousands are dying. Not in a system of government such as ours that has checks and balances in place.

The President has authority, yes. But it is not absolute authority. When things go badly, we do not expect our government to lie and say things are going swimmingly, but instead to change course and ensure that things go better; or at least as well as possible, under the circumstances.

NPR’s Steve Inskeep questions Tom Reynolds, a Republican congressional incumbent, about checks and balances. We also find that – Quayle-like – Reynolds dons the mantle of an earlier great American – Tip O’Neil. Mr. Reynolds is no Tip O’Neil.

Listen here. (There are two bits of audio there. I recommend you listen to both of them).
