Tony Snow and Fox News: The gifts that keep on giving.
When asked to comment about the milestone of 2500 US servicepeople having been killed in Iraq, Tony replied: “It’s a number“.
On Friday, two US servicemen were kidnapped at a checkpoint in Iraq. Tony spins so hard he could become a clean energy source:
The thing is the way the war is being covered — and we’ve seen it right now, we have two U.S. servicemen, and god bless them, we hope they’re okay. We’re focusing on them and we forget that since Zarqawi was killed, hundreds of bad guys have been rounded up, there has been a lot of intelligence. The Iraqis have gone ahead mobilized 50,000 men going in the five Baghdad neighborhoods. There is a lot going on there.
Tony’s got Fox News to carry the administration’s water. I’m honestly surprised that the administration hasn’t yet thought to run movietone-style propaganda pieces right after the trailers run in your local cinema.
In a democracy, the last thing we need is whinging from the government about editorial story selection when the story is kidnapped US soldiers.
Most recently, the Taliban has started really giving us a problem in Afghanistan. It may have something to do with the fact that we have 140,000 US troops mired in shit one country over in Iraq. Tony says we predicted that.
BLITZER: Let’s move on and talk about some other issues. I know your time is limited. Afghanistan. Is the Taliban making a serious comeback right now?
SNOW: I think what the Taliban is doing — and it’s predictable — is that they are trying to test in the south, where the U.S. forces are handing over to NATO…But A, it’s predictable, and B, in the encounters, as you know, the Taliban fighters have overwhelmingly been losing. Now, I think it is predictable…you can expect there to be pushback by the Taliban.
Strange, if it was so predictable, how come President John Wayne Junior said this in September 2004:
And as a result of the United States military, Taliban no longer is in existence. And the people of Afghanistan are now free. (Applause.) In other words when you say something as President you better make it clear so everybody understands what you’re saying, and you better mean what you say.
