Who says public transportation has to suck? Imagine the ads Larry Meckler could star in if Metro Rail even vaguely resembled Stockholm’s subway system..

Looks about as busy as Bflos MetroRail. All those pictures and I think I counted something like 24 people in them. Case closed. Spending millions on public transportation is dumping millions down a rat hole. If Larry Meckler wants his mug on TV he should get a real job, like an architectural preservation obstructionist.
I loved the Metro Rail when I lived in Buffalo. It’s really not a train to nowhere as some say. It is a train of limited utility as it only has one line. You probably need to repopulate the city a little before it makes any sense to expand it. I mean, parking is plentiful in the city and not that expensive, and there’s not a whole lot of congestion going on, at least as compared to bigger metros. The Metro would be more relevent if it was a pain in the butt to have a car in the city, but it’s actually more of a pain not to have one.
When I was in Stockholm, I never saw a train as full as one in Buffalo at rush hour. But there’s no reason to take it, Stockholm is such a small and beautiful city that you can walk anywhere in no time and also have an enjoyable experience.
Metro Rail is great and would be infinitely better if I could just not use the UB shuttle to get to North Campus and get to the airport. Whenever people talk about the rail here, they forget that not everyone has a car and not everyone can afford it (car, gas, insurance). I’m in college and would rather spend the meager amount I earn from working on a trip to Sweden than a car.
