And there doesn’t appear to be a reason why the entity that owns the buildings depicted in this video isn’t maintaining them. The owner is associated with a member of Buffalo’s Control Board. The video was produced by WNYMedia.net’s own Marc Odien and FixBuffalo blogger David Torke (whose hiatus from blogging was thankfully short-lived.) Torke’s story is here.
On a side note, the quality of the photojournalism in that piece is as professional as anything you’ll see on your nightly news. Stay tuned. There’ll be more where that came from.

Alan,
Thanks for getting the word out to a larger audience!
Best,
David
I was shocked to learn who the owners of these properties were…
Excellent work!
It is important to learn the composition of the Bethel CDC Board & publish names of members. There is a common culture of Bflo housing agencies that board members are ‘defenders of the crown’, not representatives of the community.
I have long battled “housing malpractice” by WSNHS (Neigh Housing Service) where agency-owned houses were often in shameful condition for years. Board members were indifferent & rarely responded to questions or requests for action.
Several years ago when I was monitoring Bethel, the City had “loaned” longtime cityhall housing bureaucrat Mickey Howard (husband of Buff State College President Muriel Howard) to run the agency. Is he still on the board? Who are others? We need to see the names & get their responses to this video.
Such dramatic exposure of too-common ‘housing malpractice’ by housing agencies may help to push long-needed reform.

That blue house on the fixbuffalo page looks like it has a lot of potential. I like the third story round room with all the windows thing (sorry, I don’t know the proper architectural term). Is that a room or just where the stairs are?
That’s awful. Most would see fine upon fine from the City for such neglect.
An example of another quality control board member. Just another joker playing the system. Revvie Stenhouse should be locked up next to Fillmore Ave’s Weenie Man.
David and Marc, great job!
This really exceeds the quality (in terms of both technical expertise and substance) of local TV news “journalism”.
I see nothing but up up up with these sort of documentary shorts. Hopefully a way can be devised to get this stuff to a wider general audience.
