BH Liddell Hart
I've had couple of conversations with the General. He's also honorary National Commandant of the Marine Corps League, a Detachment of which I am Commandant of in NC.

Bottom line in this thread is this:
I wouldn't care if Jon Powers was endorsed by "Jack Armstrong, the All-American Boy".

Democrats, including a few commenters on this thread, told us Eliot Spitzer was the Answer to NYS' Problems.

Wanna believe them again? They OBVIOUSLY knew so much last time.......They were SO RIGHT.

Back to tatonka's idea--Don't matter if he's an ignorant philandering hack with a drinking problem...JUST SO HE'S A DEMOCRAT.

Anyone know where Powers stands on the issuses?

Hank,

You are lucky to have known Al Gray, he was tremendously important in bringing maneuver warfare to the Marines. Interesting note for everyone else, Al Grey was made commendant of the marines under then Navy Secretary and now Senator Jim Webb.

Most people here are missing the point of endorsement, its not about winning votes, its about credibility, among Democratic activists locally, donors both nationally and locally, and the press locally. Its also a nice press clipping, but it will change few minds.

You should have a "Contribute to Jon Powers" link-thingy here, like Atrios and Kos do for selected candidates.

What a waste of time. A cookie cutter press release. Clark could have inserted Gomer Pyle instead of Powers in the release and it would have meant just as much to this race. Clark may know how to fight a war, but he doesn't know snot, nor cares, about Powers, Reynolds or NY-26. He is merely trying to stroke his own narcissicistic ego that most generals have.

I have to agree with Hank. Until Jon Powers or anyone else, including that old codger Davis, figure out that just being "not-Reynolds" won't get them elected, this release is just a waste of paper.

And explain to me how a candidate that couldn’t hold his own in the Democratic primary will assist a Democratic candidate in a heavily Republican District. He can’t get a majority of support in his own party, but he’s going to help someone who needs all of that party plus a fair share of the other party?

Because he's a former 4-Star General and SACEUR who has actually gone to war and has more knowledge about war and security than Dick Cheney and George Bush could ever think to learn, and national security seems to be a pretty big issue. Even with Republicans, believe it or not.

That's lame. Congress has often been judged more favorably than an unpopular president. But we'll see.

And explain to me how a candidate that couldn't hold his own in the Democratic primary will assist a Democratic candidate in a heavily Republican District. He can't get a majority of support in his own party, but he's going to help someone who needs all of that party plus a fair share of the other party?

That's a brilliant strategy. We'll see in 12 months how that goes. And I'm so glad the Dems in this area are not willing to learn anything from November 2007. Just keep on ignoring the voters and what they say and come up with all sorts of justifications and excuses for lost elections and low poll numbers.

November 2008 is going to be great if things keep on this track.

Yes, approval ratings for a group are almost always lower than those for a specific individual.

Like I said, we'll see in 12 months who's out of touch.

Oh, and for those of you who are not that patient, look at polling data on job performance for the Democratic Congress and the Democratic Governor, especially how people in their own party feel about them. For those of you too lazy to look, the Congress' approval rating is even lower than W's and we all know how you guys feel about him.

We just saw it in the past few weeks. We don't have to wait another 12 months, but if that's what it will take to convince you, then okay. You'll see it again.
