Dear John McCain

If you’re going to paint your opponent as some sort of effete celebrity elitist, you might want to avoid exchanges that go like this:

Sen. John McCain said in an interview Wednesday that he was uncertain how many houses he and his wife, Cindy, own.

“I think — I’ll have my staff get to you,” McCain told Politico in Las Cruces, N.M. “It’s condominiums where — I’ll have them get to you.”

The correct answer is at least four, located in Arizona, California and Virginia, according to his staff. Newsweek estimated this summer that the couple owns at least seven properties.

And you might want to put the kibosh on statements like this:

In Arizona, the only way to get around the state is by small private plane.

Regular folks don’t have an uncountable number of homes and can manage to get around Arizona just fine via car. So maybe let’s set the elitism thing go. K?

Love, BP.

  2. Russell says:

Yep, poor Obama had to get a sweetheart deal from a shady investor to buy his paltry shack. But how does the number of houses determine celebrity status? Too bad the celebrity ads have worked and this Johnny has only been rising in the polls since those ads started running. You may not like it, but the American public is buying it, no matter how many houses they might own.

Mr. Illuzzi, who, according to a 2005 report in The Buffalo News, has a criminal past that includes pleading guilty to bank robbery and a conviction for securities fraud.

Supported blindly by moo-moo hank and his banjo picking wife as they burn some tires in front of their trailor. Yes hank, look up walmart republican in the dictionary and you will see your picture.

  5. John says:

Yep, poor John McCain had to dump his wife and shack up with some female of easy virtue in order to get his ever-expanding number of houses.

Has a home-wrecking trollop ever been first lady before? Other than Nancy Reagan, I mean.

  6. The Humanist says:

@Russell – the point here is that John McCain abandoned his disabled wife and 2 children to fuck a blonde beer heiress who was 20 years younger than him. Who later turned out to be prescription pill addict who stole from her own charity to feed her habit and fired the guy who blew the whistle on her.

But he’s the “moral” candidate, uh-huh.

I posted 5 polls yesterday that showed Obama with a slight lead with the conventions and debates yet to come. McCain hasn’t moved from 41-42% in polling in months.

  7. Russell says:

Did anyone say he was the moral candidate? That was not what this was about. I do not see where the point was about his divorce or the actions of his current wife.

  8. The Humanist says:

@Russell – well, if you’re going to throw out untrue smears against Obama (i.e. “sweetheart deal from a shady investor”), I’m going to bring up the FACT that John McCain ditched his disabled wife and 2 kids to shack up with a prescription pill addict who just happened to be the heiress to a beer fortune and who used her family’s money to jumpstart his political career (and is still doing so).

Oh, by the way, when McCain committed his adultery in the 70’s, it wasn’t just a “personal, private” issue…he was violating military rules. But this asshole feels free to comment on how gays and lesbians can’t serve. What a champ.

  9. Jon Splett says:

So why isn’t the Obama campaign be running a commercial informing the American public of this and painting John McCain as the rich, old, curmudgeony douchebag he is?

Because they want to lose again this year? Only the democrats could let the rich, white guy look like less of an elitist than a black guy who was explaining why his pastor hated whitey so much just a few months back.

And please don’t tell me it’s because his campaign is above that. Neither side wants to make this election about actual policy because they know the average American doesn’t have the attention span or the intellect to understand it.

America didn’t always suck this bad did it?

  10. This confounds me nearly as much as the idea that a Yale graduating, MLB team owning, oil company running candidate is a “normal guy” and would be a good guy to “have a beer with”.

    My fellow Americans -
Don’t pick on my senate colleague John McCain. What’s wrong with marrying wealth after dumping your first wife, having multiple homes and no longer having to sleep in the office?

    Signed – Senator John Kerry

  12. Gasp! says:

Of course, if Kerry couldn’t remember how many houses he owned, it would have been a huge story for 2 months. But since McCain is a Republican it’ll fade quickly.

  13. hank says:

    Inbred gap toothed Mike–
See if you get it this time.
Stick Built house–No Trailer. Grow a pair of balls and send me your e-mail and I’ll send you a picture.

Wife is a retired Sailor…What have YOU done for YOUR country? Besides being a fucktard we could do without.

Look up “Gangrene of the Scrotum” in a medical dictionary and you’ll see a portrait of yourself.

Don’t blame me if your family’s so poor the last time you had a portrait taken the Photog said “SAY CHEESE” and your whole family got in line….

Heard the last time your wife walked out of the house with a red dress on all the kids on the street said “HEY KOOL-AID”

John McCain has a prenup. Most of the residences he has either belong to his wife, or her company. He probably hedged because he wanted to be sure he said the right number that HE is actually on the title for.

Barry O buys homes from con-men. Chris Dodd leads the committee that oversees Countrywide Mortgage, who gave him a sweetheart deal on a mortgage while his committee investigated them.

McCain also owns the home where his 1st wife lives, she lives there at no cost to her.

John Kerry lives in several residences, all owned by the women he cons into marrying him.

    YAWN.

  14. mike says:

Sorry hank, i didnt know your wife had a sex change. But that explains why sean is always trying to steal you away from her/him.

  15. Jon Splett says:

Did Hank really just unleash a classic mid-90’s ‘Yo Mamma’ style joke to insult Mike?

I mean, seriously, that would have KILLED on my elementary school’s playground back in the day. The kids yell ‘Kool Aid’ when she walks outside?! OH SNAPS! You totally burned him dude. You should have been a writer for ‘Family Matters’.

You’re a king among trolls, Hank.

    A king among trolls.

Gotta love the McCain campaign response to “Housegate”

    http://voices.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/08/21/mccain_spokesmans_retort_obama.html

[McCain spokesman Brian Rogers] also added: “This is a guy who lived in one house for five and a half years — in prison,” referring to the prisoner of war camp that McCain was in during the Vietnam War.

  19. Henry says:

When someone reads through all of these mostly inane comments and responses you can really get a pretty good idea of why Buffalo is in the mess that it’s in. Why is everything always about liberals vs. conservatives instead of being about fixing the pathetic situation that our city has been in for decades? I have just about been taxed out of this place and this city is still for all intents and purposes completely bankrupt. (financially, socially, ethically and morally!) We need to schidtcan both of the corrupt and incompetent political parties and start over.

As for the sorry state this country is in, once again both parties have done a piss-poor job of running things. Once again we’re stuck with two lousy candidates, as my dad used to say, “The evil of two lessers.” Neither Obama nor McCain are “men of the people,” they’re both just classic politicians lying for votes so that they can ram their ideology down our throats once they are elected. Once again it is business as usual and things will continue to get worse for our society after the election, no matter who wins.

For the record I am a sort of conservative leaning libertarian, which makes me an oppressed minority in Buffalo. My biggest political belief that government should get the hell out of my life and leave me the frick alone. I don’t make much money, but I don’t think that “rich” people owe me anything either. Our founding fathers explicitly enumerated the powers of the federal government and we’ve spent the past 230 years largely ignoring the Constitution. Our governments at all levels are bankrupt and yet we still tolerate them stealing our money so they can waste most of it on useless things every damned year.

  20. The Humanist says:

“My biggest political belief that government should get the hell out of my life and leave me the frick alone”

That should serve you well the next time you have a house fire, or a break-in.

Or your car hits a massive pothole on the Thruway.

Or you’re refused serviced or harassed in a store because of the color of your skin.

I’m not in favor of a nanny-state…but I always get a chuckle out of folks yearning for some sunny utopia of a world without government.

  21. TheRover says:

A world with conciderably less government would be a huge improvement. think about it, at the very least, fewer employees.
