I’m not giving Bush a pass on everything, but I am pretty sure that the The GOP Senate during the first 6 years never had a filibuster proof majority. I also am pretty sure that no President has ever had to deal with a 9/11 crisis, 2 back to back Hurricanes and a wildly growing global economy during the same tenure. And all of that coming off the 8 Clinton years that the U.S. drastically reduced our preparedness for withstanding these events. Yet our economy still hasn’t hit a recession. It certainly isn’t rosy, but considering the circumstances I am happier with our system of government then any other place in the world. I prefer to see the glass half full.

Gore or Kerry could have us in much worse shape. Perhaps they would have us in better shape. Just because they are Dem and Bush is Rep, doesn’t mean that they would have made different decisions or had better outcomes. Hindsight is so 20/20.

I hate to go off-topic, but I was out of town when the Powers stuff started flowing mid-month. Whatever the status of his charity, or his so-called criminal record, I blame the local party committees for not vetting him before jumping on the bandwagon. And that extends to the local GOP committees, and most national counterparts, who usually do no more than a superficial glance at a candidate’s bio and checkbook before backing him.

I’d like to see parties implement something akin to the character and fitness process. It would save a lot of hassle down the line.

in fairness jeff, i would note that the columnist pat buchanan has been writing about how bush & his gop minions have screwed everything up at least since the iraq invasion. in fact, he even opposed the afghan invasion, if i remember correctly.

What the partisan fools don’t want you to realize, is that things have gotten progressively worse in this country ever since GWB took the oath 7 1/2 years ago.

Republicans have NO EXCUSE. We saw a Republican President and a Republican congress for 6 SOLID YEARS. It spelled disaster for this country, as many thought it would.

You complain of not enough bills passed? THANK GOD! Bush didn’t veto even ONE thing until the Democrats took over. That is how we arrived at an unprecedented 9 trillion dollar debt.

If the Republicans lose the White House, you can thank all those stubborn partisan fools who insult the average American’s intelligence with this pro-Republican-at-all-cost propaganda.

Just once I would love to hear a registered Republican say “yeah, we screwed everything up pretty good!”

Accountability is virtuous, not adopting the M.O. of Rush Limbaugh.

And that article in Buffalo News was great – it showed Kryzan & Davis won’t talk about the actual issues – even kryzan can’t stand up to her promise to stick to issues.

the claim, of course, is assinine, as are many similar partisan japes posted by the proprietors of these blog thingees.

far more interesting, i thought, was the story from the buffalo news about how john powers has thrown his war kids relief phony charity down the memory hole, failing to even mention it in his first campaign mailing last week. i’d missed the original story.

i mean, why would he do that? even alice kryzan noted that his tireless work on behalf of the war orphans was the centerpiece of the bio he initially presented to the voters on this site, nbc news, daily kos etc. why on earth would he now pretend the whole thing never happened?

color me puzzled!

This current economic downturn started July or August ‘07. I work in the transportation industy which is a leading indicator of economic activity. So once the democrat controlled congress got seated and got to work, yes, things started to fall off. Pelosi and Reid and all their stupid ideas, etc. Even the great Bush tax cuts couldn’t withstand their nonsense. However there is hope. Ever so slightly I feel things beginning to turn. I suspect it all has to do with Gov Palins selection as VP. Not only has she done everything Pundit has claimed, she will be credited with singlehandedly reviving the economy the the liberals are trying so hard to crush.
