So what besides find a viable candidate do we have to do?

I assume voter registration. Maybe convince City R’s their only chance is switch next year to D. Anyone know the numbers vis-s-vis City registrations. Get non-reg registered D and get them out.

Problem I see with Kearns is he’s a little too small town. We need someone who’s got name recognition and has been off the farm so to speak. I mean, there are a lot of people with great ideas and principles, like Locurto. I just don’t see it being enough to have good ideas.

Need some $$$$ to boot. http://www.draft(fillinblank).com

Hey….when the McCain-Palin ticket loses in November, can we draft Sarah Palin to run for Mayor of Buffalo? She’s a pitbull with lipstick, people!

  3. mike says:

Brownie’s doing a heck of a job! Oh did someone else say that already?

  4. NoHo says:

I clicked on Mickey Kearns because, like Baby Tia, he seems “viable.” Otherwise I would have picked Sam. He would be a great mayor.

@ Humanist. I’m going to the City Shelter for you with a bag of lipstick. I’ll get you a pitbull with lipstick – just stop suggesting that! I’m queezy over the suggestion!

  6. Chris Smith says:

What a sad sack of shit choices. BuffaFAIL.

  7. Jon Splett says:

I wrote myself in so I’m assuming that 22% voting for ‘Other’ all did the same.

    Thanks for your support guys.

I’ll be sure to keep you on my short list for some patronage jobs.

    Is Carl Paladino available?

  9. al-alo says:

how about some of the previous also rans? Steve Calvaneso? or Gaughan?

Pundit, how about a nomination thread to come up with a few viable names?

Let’s start with which attributes a candidate would need to successfully run against Byron Brown:
    1. Minority
    2. Female
    3. Success in the Private sector
    4. Name recognition
    5. Close ties with the labor community
    6. Close ties with the progressive activist community

A candidate would need a majority of these attributes to stand a chance against Brown. Remember, too, its been 40 years since the last time a Mayor lost a re-election bid.

  11. RaChaCha says:

I wrote in Marti Gorman, mainly because I have a running joke with her that she should run for mayor. She always protests, “I don’t know anything about politics!” and I say, “Exactly!”

  12. Prodigal Son says:

Buffalo has been failing for fifty years. Buffalo has had a Democratic mayor for seventy years. Coincidence? Is there a connection? Seems like any R has a chance by offering change.

As in “If you don’t think Buffalo has gotten better for the last seventy years, try me. If it doesn’t work out, vote me out. After seventy years, what do you have to lose.”

I don’t think Buffalo’s problems only stem from having a Dem mayor, but isn’t there an opportunity here? Even with the massive advantage Dems have in registration?

  13. Adam K says:

    Chris.

Name one, just one, resident of the city of Buffalo who meets your stringent qualification of perfection and no less to be a public official. Give me just one person to vote for.

Like BJ implied, Brown is unbeatable.

  14. Dave A. says:

Forget Brown. We should run Erie County like a business. We should fire Collins, as long as he gets his $42 million golden parachute. Shut down the underperforming north towns, sell off Amherst, Clarence and Orchard Park to Pennsylvania, and lay off half the work force of everything that’s left. And we also need to fire the entire city government and outsource its day-to-day operation to India.

  15. James says:

Paladino or Collins seem like better options. (Not sure if Collins lives in B’lo)

  16. hank says:

By all means, Re-elect Byron Brown!!!

Look at all he’s done in his first term, does he not deserve to finish the job he’s started–Even if it takes the next 100 years?

It WAS time to elect a black state senator with a lackluster record to be mayor of Buffalo, even the Buffalo News said so.

In fact, it’s worked out so well we should elect a black state senator with a lackluster record to be President too!!!

All the thinks they can think…….
