It’s normal in political campaigns that the incumbent or the candidate with the clear lead in the polls should avoid debates. If the polls are close or the incumbent feels in trouble, then he/she should debate. Someone that’s 10-points or more up in the polls should avoid sharing a stage with the opponent. It can only benefit the opponent. I’m sure it bothers Alice and her supporters that Lee has no need to debate her. Besides, this isn’t the presidential election. Who actually attends or watches these debates? It’s pretty much a non-story.

Yup, Mesi has agreed to debate Ranzenhofer on all but 2 debates if I’m not mistaken.

Lee is pathetic to be skipping debates. Democracy? notsomuch.

I remember a time not so long ago when King Eliot refused to debate the challenger Suozzi… I guess the common knowledge is that when you are in the lead, you dont need to accept debates.

BTW, has Mesi agreed to debate Ranzenhofer yet?

It’s not unexpected, and to a sad degree debates aren’t even as useful as they used to be. The parties are so polarized that too many voters have their flags planted before they even know who the candidates are.
