Comptrollers Endorse Stachowski

DiNapoli, Poloncarz, and SanFilippo all endorsed the incumbent Democrat re-election as Senator for the 58th District. Given the economic crisis we’re in, it would probably make sense to pay attention to these three fiscal watchdogs, who are stumping for the ranking member of the State Senate’s Finance Committee.

DiNapoli:

I have every confidence in Senator Stachowski’s ability to make the difficult decisions needed to right New York’s fiscal ship. He has the experience, the drive, and the confidence to represent his constituents, and he has proven to be an excellent partner in the Senate.

Poloncarz:

As the Ranking member on the Senate Finance Committee, Bill has been and will continue to be a strong advocate for our community, protecting Western New York’s interests in Albany during these difficult economic times. The Senator has a keen eye for detail when it comes to state finances, and is the voice of Erie County’s working families when debating the state budget. I’m proud to endorse his candidacy and look forward to working with him when he returns to Albany.

SanFilippo:

Senator Stachowski is a true asset to the 58th District and to the entire Western New York community. I am honored to endorse Senator Stachowski for re-election and encourage voters to give their approval to his candidacy and let him continue his outstanding work in the State Senate.

Meantime, the guy running against Stachowski was sent to ECMC three times to find DNA to help track down the bike path killer, and failed all three times:

Look, they sent Dennis down to ECMC to get try to find the DNA slides that would prove that Anthony Capozzi wasn’t the Bikepath rapist three times and he came backing saying they weren’t there all three times. It was only when they got a call from someone else who had found DNA materials for another case at ECMC that they went back and found the slides,” one of our sources says. “The truth is that Frank Sedita was already on this case as were other Cold Case detectives no matter what Dennis did. By this time, Sedita was determined to find the evidence that would prove Capozzi either innocent or guilty and that’s what he did. Actually, it was Sedita got Anthony Capozzi out of jail and exonerated in record time and that’s the truth.

Dennis Delano – why is he taking all the credit for something a lot of people had a hand in doing?

I personally think Senator Satchowski should be re-elected but proclaiming that all three comptrollers have “endorsed the incumbent” is pretty disingenuous. All three comptrollers are Democrats who would you expect them to endorse?

  2. Chris Smith says:

I don’t think that anyone knows all the details of the Capozzi case. At the time, there was said to be massive problems with the DNA labs, inter-office and departmental coordination, etc over a long period of time. To cherrypick comments from people who may or may not have axes to grind is a bit lame. Especially when the primary source for these comments is unnamed on a site bought and paid for by the Erie County Democratic Party.

Stachowski has been in Albany for a very long time, but of course, he’s not the problem. It’s all the other guys and those troublesome downstate interests. Ugh.

  3. Stachowski is a useless political hack. Pure self-serving machine politician, do what your told machine hack.

And the thing about ECMC sounds like bull. I’ve been there too looking for DNA. You’re at the mercy of the staff. You can’t pull a gun out and threaten people.

  4. Julie Cooper says:

Excuse me- But I for one and not going to vote for a high school drop out who refuses to debate. DNA aside why won’t he debate??? How can you vote for someone when they won’t tell you where they stand on the issues? The choice is clear.

  5. Starbuck says:

Considering how the state legislature functions, I don’t think qualifications, issue positions, or deabte skills of Mesi-Delano-Ranzenhofer-Stachowski are a sensible basis of voter decisions.

Would those four would really matter in the state senate except for their vote for either Skelos or Smith as the 3rd Man In The Room with Paterson and Silver?

I’m still not sure what’s the best choice for that. On the one hand, NY Republicans are almost as much in bed with union special interests as Democrats, so on economics and the budget probably it doesn’t matter which controls the state senate. That’s an argument in favor of Dem control – why not have the real thing? Are there other issues on which Republican would be better? Crime maybe? I haven’t heard much discussed. Seeing that Pundit so much wants Dem control of the senate makes me suspicious of it, but if I had to list any issues that favor Republicans controlling the senate I’d be stumped. I heard that Mike Bloomberg wants the Republicans to keep senate control even though he quit the party. Is that just because they support some NYC projects he wants, or are there deeper reasons?

How’s this for an idea – Dean Skelos and Malcom Smith should debate next week in WNY and try to explain the serious differences if there are any.

“Stachowski has been in Albany for a very long time, but of course, he’s not the problem. It’s all the other guys and those troublesome downstate interests. Ugh.”

Couldn’t have said it better myself. He’s been a state senator since 1981, and he has less name recognition in his own district than his opponent. That is just pathetic.

  7. Starbuck says:

Prof. Hardwick – since WNY will have such a big role in determining senate control, why not invite Skelos and Smith to come here and debate each other on TV or radio some evening next week?

  8. Julie Cooper says:

Okay so you are going to vote for someone who hasn’t told you where he stands on the issue. Sounds about right. Trust me on this…in this climate you want someone (who by the way will be in the majority) like the Senator to represent us in Albany. I’m not so sure about that poll- doesn’t sound right…but, I do know who i am voting for And it’s becuase i know where the Senator stands on the issues and i know what he’s done for Western NY. Give me one good reason why anyone should vote for that slug- just one reason. TO VOTE FOR HIM- what does he stand for?? what is he going to do for us?? hmmmm guess we’ll never know.

  9. Julie Cooper says:

Oh I almost forgot – I’ve seen Delano speak in public…i know why he doesn’t wnat to debate. It’s painful-trust. But, the best part was he didn’t know what parts of the region were in the Senate district! moron.

  10. Tuco says:

@ Julie: Given all that, the fact Stachowski isn’t killing him in the polls is pathetic!!! The guy’s a 13-term incumbent for God’s sake. Just saying the fact he’s resorting to dirty politics/having to spend money in a campaign for the first time because nobody can pick him out of a crowd is shameful.

Also, don’t assume you know where my vote is going.

  11. Julie Cooper says:

    I apologize for assuming-

  12. Mike In WNY says:

26 years in the State Senate and 26 years of drunken sailor type spending. To quote Julie Cooper and her rose colored glasses, “the choice is clear”.

  13. Julie Cooper says:

you mean 40 years of REBUPUBLICAN spending. But, we won’t have to worry about them after November anyway. And your boy will be in the minority. oh and by the way….he grunted that if that were to happen he would leave the Seante. sounds good to me Mike..he sounds like a winner! Rose colored glasses indeed. It’s called being well informed and making smart choices.

  14. I’d vote for a corpse over Stachowski if I lived in the district.

I worked for his opponent in 1975 when it was evident even to a high school student that there was an evil force of slackers called the machine.

The guy hasn’t done a single thing for WNY since except spend his inflated salary and do what he is told by the party chairman. You have to to be a real Kool-Aid drinker to even muster up the energy to post about him.

  15. Mike In WNY says:

    Dear Julie,
There have been no real republicans governing this state during my lifetime. There were two limousine-liberal governors masquerading as republicans, Rockefeller and Pataki, and Wilson who served a year to fill out Rockefeller’s term, the rest were Democrats. The Assembly has been controlled by Democrats, and the Senate by Republicans. I think there’s enough blame for our current state of affairs to be shared by both parties.

Stachowski has had 26 years of failed leadership, Delano gets my vote by default because he is not Stachowski and hasn’t screwed up yet. It has nothing to do with what party anyone belongs to. Your rose-colored glasses only perceive a partisan slant.

  16. Julie Cooper says:

I’m sorry but it’s not becuse he’s a democrat- it’s becuase i think a senator should be able to read and write.

  17. Tuco says:

If that’s the case, I know Mr. Ranzenhofer will be getting your vote if you live in that district.

  18. Julie Cooper says:

Delano makes baby Joe look like a rhodes scholar.
