Kryzan Doesn't Get WFP Line

The campaign’s press release:

Today, the New York State Supreme Court ruled in favor of Christopher Lee’s effort to keep Alice Kryzan from appearing on the Working Family Party line.

Anne Wadsworth, Sr Campaign Advisor said: “This is nothing more than the Republican machine’s attempt to make a mockery of the Democratic process. Jon Powers is not a candidate for Congress, he does not live in the state of New York and therefore by state law is ineligible to appear on the ballot. Clearly Republicans are struggling to come up with a winning message and are therefore playing Karl Rove-like antics in an attempt to steal the election. Alice got into this campaign because she believes that with new leadership we can bring jobs and prosperity back to Western New York. Republicans can play all the political games and use all the smear tactics they want, but we are confident that come November 4th Western New York will see through the mud and elect Alice Kryzan because she represents the positive change we need with integrity and independence.”

You mean someone opposed it?

Well, that will cost her a few points for sure.

  2. wizards cousin mizard says:

Powers will have my vote in November… because he’s the only one of the three candidates who deserve it.

  3. Martin Van Buren says:

The US Constitution really keeps getting in the way of the Kryzan campaign.

  4. Mike In WNY says:

The Buffalo News makes no mention about Chris Lee challenging Kryzan over the ballot line. In fact, it says the Working Families Party sought to substitute Kryzan for Powers.

Acting State Supreme Court Justice Kimberly A. O’Connor in Albany ruled that Working Families’ attempt to substitute Kryzan for Powers after Powers moved out of state to Washington did not meet election law requirements.

“The time for such challenges has long passed,” she added. “While Powers has chosen employment that currently has him working outside the State of New York, the law does not provide for a mechanism to have his name taken off the ballot at this late date.”

  5. Starbuck says:

Wizard is right. The WFP line would draw a few points at most in that district.

Shrewd move, though, for her to publicly attack nameless generic Republicans with such hostility in a district where there’s more R voters than D. Way to keep focus there.

  6. The Wizard says:

Could make the difference though in a tight race. I will be happily casting my vote for Powers on Nov. 4th with no regrets.

  7. The Lee campaign opposed it, from what I’m hearing.

Bitter Powers Supporters = major FAIL

  10. Dave A says:

I have a problem with parties that exist only to give D’s or R’s a second or third line on the ballot. I dunno. Maybe it’s just me.

  11. The Wizard says:

Alice Kryzan is a bold faced liar. She did it again tonight at the debate with her special interests question. Get fucking real, Alice. She is a cliche lying politician.

  12. Chris Smith says:

How many registered WFP voters are there in the district? If they are married to the idea of voting on that line even though the candidate who supports their interests is on another line…what does that actually mean for Kryzan’s chances, such as they are…

  13. WNYDEM says:

This probably wouldn’t have happened if Powers hadn’t dithered for a month. There would have been time for an appeal and a more orderly transition from one candidate to the other.

  14. Russell says:

WNYDEM, I thin you’re right. The judge stated in her ruling that they took too long to try to make this move. Chalk another one up for Jonny.

  15. Russell says:

    Excuse me, “think” not “thin”

  16. The Wizard Jr says:

@ Russell and WNYDEM, you are both incorrect on your assumptions. The law is clear that someone cannot get off the ballot by moving out of state, read the Delay Decision which is based off an interpretation of the U.S. Constitution (which the Judge in this case cited). This has nothing to do with Powers.

  17. Russell says:

First, the Chair of the WFP is the one that suggested they could take Jonny off the ballot and put Kryzan on because Jonny left, not me or WNYDEM. Second, one of Jonny’s lovers on here, I think it was Wizard, implied that part of the reason Jonny skipped town was to assist the Democratic candidate by providing her the line through his exiting the state.

This does have everything to do with Jonny. He sought the nomination for the Working Families Party for the general election. He promised to carry their banner in this election and formally accepted their party’s line. Now he bailed on them before the election and they were left to scramble for representation after Jonny left them in a lurch. Furthermore, the judge, in her decision, cited the timeliness of the attempted switch.

The “when elected” point is only a small part of the entire decision, but apparently this is a part of the law Jonny, Alice and the WFP were all ignorant on. Jonny supported this idea, not me. Take it up with him.
