I think Hillary would be better as Secetary of Health and Human Services or Housing and Urban Development but I imagine that either is too low profile for her. But having brian Higgins appointed to serve her term in the Senate would be very good for our region.

A broader point: If we wanted a cabinet full of Clintonistas, wouldn’t we have nominated Hillary? Is Barak just supposed to be a black, male Hillary? No. I think the movement that propelled him to the nomination was largely people–like you–who didn’t want Clinton redux. But now all the sudden you defend Clinton redux? It makes no sense.

Clinton’s “mistake” was moving the center righward. Obama is poised to do the same damn thing. If we are serious about change in this country, electing Obama was a necessary, but very fucking far from sufficient, condition.

even if they appoint from upstate, it’d be hard to win a primary for reelection.

When Hillary was going to be President the buzz was Byron Brown or David Paterson. It is Paterson’s call to make; particularly if they appoint a White person to fill Obama’s seat then Brown, the second most important African American in the state, may have a strong shot at this.

Traditionally, the party appartus would look to the Mayor of NYC or a powerful downstate congressman or state legislature leader. The options downstate for this position are slim, Higgins stands out as the leader based on his youth, bipartisan record and community support upstate.

Unless they look to Andrew Cuomo or Tom Suozzi (both with governor aspirations), there aren’t many other options.
