Instead of an elevated roadway imagine the Buffalo Skyway creatively re-engineered and readapted to function as a traffic-free signature “green” multi-use mega-structure, complete with a glass enclosed “green roof” and pedestrian pathways through commercial, agricultural, residential, horticultural and recreational areas.

Although still in a very conceptual design phase consider checking out: www.ranwebber.com
Here you can view a serious visionary proposal complete with a map, illustrations, opinions and facts regarding this Skyway concept and the arguments for demolishing it. There is also a side show highlighting the main ideas and reasons for keeping and re-inventing the Skyway. Don't overlook the 31 related, supporting videos(from music videos to serious political and social commentaries).

Consider keeping an open mind, thinking outside the box and being well informed when voicing serious opinions and comments about Buffalo's past and future. Also keep in mind that Buffalo's Waterfront originally developed and grew out of the geographical location, commercial energy and industrial needs of the times that required it - function truly did dictate form. They did not build a romantic faux brick and cobblestone waterfront facade with the shallow dreams that commerce and industry would follow. There are several wonderful canal towns nearby already. Are we really interested in competing with Tonawanda and Lockport. Buffalo needs to establish itself as a proactive, sustainable, hi-tech, environmental "Green" center for the Great Lakes Basin. I prefer Real World to Disney World where growth develops out of and from the needs of the future.

Instead of holding up a banner that says "If we build it, they will come (maybe)". I'd prefer to see one that says. "Build it and we will stay".

Um I was not joking from teh internets today :From CrunchGear moments ago, reports of a new virus are coming out just this morning. The virus seems to imbed a URL redirect to a phishing site.

The site apparently installs Antivirus 2009, which is malware. We’ll pull our most recent YouTube embeds, but be careful because this one appears to have just broken out today. If you find yourself being automatically redirected or experience other weird pop-ups, especially for something called Antivirus 2009, don’t click on anything.

Keep an eye out for more info/patches/etc on this.

Good luck to you posters without a good virus cleaner, its seems to be coming from youtube's embeddings.

The Augsperger ramp in Buffalo was specifically built <i>not</i> to look like a parking structure. It worked well too. For years it sat mostly empty because most folks didn't know is was a parking ramp.

I live 4 blocks from this parking deck. Before Petco Park, this area of town was a little run down. The design was under the direction of the Center City Development Corp. Which is similar to the ECHDC but has a lot more autonomy from elected officials.

What you can not see clearly in the picture is the large space between the building and the street. During games, this space becomes a beer garden for people who do not want to deal with tailgating. I wish you could have been here during a game. The large open space during game days becomes a mass "mall" of people who get off the trolley to the left.
-So much for building to the street-LOL

Buffalo has some of these elements already. The Metro, a public arena and lots of open space. Let's hope they get it right!

if not the SD parking garage, look at this one

Google Street Scene: 1524 Thames St, Baltimore, MD, United States

Don't be alarmed. It may look like a boutique and condos, but it's really a parking garage. (It's both actually, but don't tell).

P.S. Canalside does not equal Fells Point, thanks.
