Guess

Without doing a search or otherwise cheating, I challenge you to tell me what this car is:

That is the 2010 Buick LaCrosse. It single-handedly shows me that GM is starting to get it. Yes, it’s an expensive car that is almost reaching Cadillac territory in terms of price, but I think it is almost Lexus-like in terms of interior quality and exterior lines.

    Growing up in MI my instincts tell me Buick. And that Tiger Woods is the driver. Well that’s my golf instincts. Or something.

    I’m guessing that whatever it is (Buick?), it’s a common name in the USA, but this version is only available in Europe.

    Actually, having seen the new Jag XF the other day, I almost thought that it was the Jag….which is a reason NOT to buy the Jag, in my opinion, since the Jag XF resembles other pieces of crap on the road.

    I thought it might be a Buick. Buicks used to be high-end, a rung down from Cadillac on the GM spectrum. Those distinctions got blurred, and Oldsmobile (a rung down from Buick, a step up from Chevy) was the first to go. Buick will probably be the next– there’s a range of Cadillacs now that overlaps what the Buick used to be, although the low end Caddys are not as nice as the high-end Buicks.

    I’m all for choice, but one of GM’s big problems over the past 30 years has been that they’ve overwhelmed us with it. This looks like a decent set of wheels– kinda sporty, nice lines. Time was, it might have been popular, but it don’t see it emerging from the wreckage of the American automobile industry crisis.

    I thought “Chinese Buick” when I first saw the image. Buicks are actually a high-end brand in China, unlike the US where they’re associated with farmer’s market disasters and early bird specials at Country Kitchen.

    And, when i goes on the market, auto dealers in the area will be adding pinstripes and aftermarket Harold’s vinyl roofs, and selling them as “Buffalo Edition” packages.

    I was in China in May and noticed all the Buick labeled cars. Tons of Centurys and Park Avenues, but also numerous rebadged Suzukis with the Buick label. Buick is the face of GM in China.
    What was even more interesting was the number of VWs in China. Virtually every taxi in Beijing was a 2nd generation Jetta. The one VW sold here from 1985-1992, yet they were brand new. Apparently VW just sent all the tooling to China and they still use the line to sell inexpensive cars that would be unacceptable in the West. 4th gen Jettas known as Boras as well as current Jettas known as Ventos are sold there also.
    The car we knew as the Quantum here in the US and Europe as the Santana in the 80’s is still being built and sold in China as well. Its like going back in time.

    Looks like it should be at least a “four-holer”, as Dad used to refer to them.
