Ryanair to Niagara Falls?

The local media kept likening Ryanair to JetBlue, which is completely off. JetBlue may be a low-cost carrier (sometimes), but although they feed you only chips, they do have comfy seats and free live TV. Ryanair’s seats don’t recline, and any amenity except the lavatory costs extra. Even customer service is at the equivalent of a 900 number.

Not long ago, it was reported that Ryanair was going to start transatlantic routes, offering fares as low as £8 – about $16. Given the ridiculous taxes and fees you pay to fly nonstop to Europe out of Toronto Pearson, that route at that fare would render the Niagara Falls airport incredibly popular indeed.

And from Dublin, you can fly Ryanair extraordinarily cheaply to just about anywhere throughout Europe (Salzburg, Venice, Barcelona, Krakow, etc.)

I am so rooting for this to happen.

Too bad the NFTA feels the need to support 2 airports. Imagine how cheap they could make it for these types of airlines if they did not through good money down the drain keeping two.

On another note the NFTA is smart to compete head to head with Toronto and any other nearby airport. I know people from Syracuse and Toronto who regularly use Buffalo to fly because of the outrageous amount of money they save.

  2. I’ve come around to the idea that NF’s easy proximity to Southern Ontario and the fact that its runway can accommodate any aircraft currently flying – something BNIA can’t – if there are to be low-cost international flights to be had, slot them up in the Falls rather than Buffalo, which has a thriving domestic lineup.

Also the airport in niagara falls doesnt have the life time contracts with the mob controled cab/fuel providers.

nonstop service is impossible from the buffalo airport because of the stubby little runways. when the overseas planes first have to land at jfk, fees etc. must be added to the cost of tickets for those wanting to come to the niagara frontier. so steel is correct, close the buffalo airport!

The chickens are out of the coop so it will be hard to move to a one airport system. NF would possibly have been a better selection for a regional airport. It is not near the population center but is is closer than many throughout the country.

They could have lengthened Buffalo Airport runways. Should have been done decades ago but WNY is lacking any kind of leadership.

acres and acres of vacant land surrounding the niagara falls international airport waiting for development. hundreds of them. hotels, warehouses and parking will be needed. raynair and any other passenger airline that wants direct service, but also cargo, from china especially, but europe and the rest of asia as well. perhaps we’ll finally have an airport on the niagara frontier that doesn’t roll up the sidewalks at 10 p.m.

Also hudson, flying the VIP’s to the casino via the new helicopter pad on the roof of the new hotel 24 hours a day would be great for business.

    like you said, mike.
