The Democrats in this town had better start getting their shit together and start working together, otherwise they’re going to have a lot worse nights than last night as time goes on. The rift between HQ Democrats and the Byron Brown Democrats has reached idiotic levels. Political power is not the number one job, here. Good, effective, responsive government is. If everyone’s on the same page with that sentiment, then someone with some real power and real clout needs to step up and bridge the gap of Fail.
I’m not pointing fingers and blaming one side or another. I’m just stating a fact.
Who needs dumbass fusion-dependent minor parties when the Democrats themselves can’t keep their shit together?
Let’s hope 2010 brings some sanity and diplomacy to that silly situation.

when the chairman of a city’s democratic party childishly refuses do endorse the city’s democratic and democratically elected mayor, that chairman is an asshole. the awful showing by dems across the board last night show that lenny’s time is long passed.
Pundito,
Why oh why do you expect an honorable ending from these self-serving thugs? BOTH parties included….don’t you get it? There’s NO difference between the two when doing it to the people….er…..doing the “WORK of the people.”
It breaks my heart to see you sad because the political hacks in WNY have no shame……
“Political power is not the number one job, here. Good, effective, responsive government is.”
Political power HAS been the number one job here. Good, effective responsive government is secondary, or, in our case probably an accident or coincidence when it does occur.
Politico Buffalo Pundit just doesn’t get it.. It is a chess game for the cash.. It has nothing to do with the betterment of the community. Sure.. you may find one good nature, fun-loving, community minded politician but he is readily destroyed or influence to play the game.
Why would you expect petty local Democrats to behave better than national Democrats? There’s a Will Rogers line here somewhere. . .
I am shocked, absolutely shocked, that Steve Pigeon’s man in Niagara Falls thinks it’s time for Lenny to go.
The sentiment stands, however that if Higgins, Brown, or any fucking Democrat for that matter had stood with Glascott, endorsed him on TV and in mailers or raised money for him or gave their organizational support, we’d probably have ourselves a new Sheriff. We’d also have had a united party walking precincts in support of all candidacies. Would have made a difference to have had a coordinated ground operation in this off-off year election.
but higgins, hoyt, brown or any other fucking democrat didn’t, did they? and why not? because barney glascott was an awful candidate. unqualified in every respect. aside from the fact that he paid you money, chris, and that he was a democrat running against a republican, what was it about him that fired your imagination? he obviously outspent howard, i can’t wait to see by how much, and appeared on tv more than don paul, yet he stumbled across the finish line a loser, despite all of your wishful thinking about there being more dems than repugs and how that makes the world a better place in which to live since no member of the gop will ever win an election again.
as for your pal lenny, sure, the fact that he lost seats in the legislature and was unable to elect glascott despite spending massive amounts of cash does not constitute what you might call EPIC FAIL and is instead a reason to cheer.
and finally, i ran into steve pigeon once this year, we shook hands and exchanged pleasantries and that was it. if i’m his man in niagara falls, he better start coming up with some cash, like glascott did for you guys.
Yawn.
It seems there are a lot of pigs running around in lipstick. The problem with pigs is they make other pigs until the food runs out. Hopefully the food is running out and soon they will eat one another. We Republicans can only hope. It’s an endless cycle of dependency where the only winners work for the government.
Power is the job, the essence, of politics. Effective governance is, or should be, necessary to remain in power – but power is what drives politics…and that is a good thing.
“Political power is not the number one job, here. Good, effective, responsive government is.”
ROFL. Well, dare to dream, I guess.
“I don’t belong to an organized party – I’m a Democrat.”
-Will Rogers
Glascott was such an attractive candidate–neither indicted nor investigated in any Cheektowaga police matter, to date. Could they not find a better hack to run? One who could campaign on a successful law enforcement career in something other than the lowest regarded department in this end of the State?
lol…I just read on the other (worse than yours) liberal website that Lenihan called the elections a “mexican standoff”. In a county that is what 10 to 1 Dems Vs GOP, he’s happy with that? I hope he stays on as chairman
What’s the dem/repub ratio in Erie County excluding the city of Buffalo, Steve?
It’s <2:1 but don't let the facts get in your way.
Alan…I’m not sure and really at this point I don’t want to research it, but I’m sure you know. I do know however that most people assume Amherst is all GOP. Funny thing, Glascott and Poloncarz won won when you just look at Dems and Repubs. So your point?
the alleged huge democratic majorities implied by voter registration in erie and niagara counties mean nothing. new jersey has a huge democratic majority too and corzine lost by five points despite two appearances by the president of the unite states on his behalf. voters in all those places gave it to dem candidates, often incuments, right up the ass. clearly something is wrong within the party i’ve belonged to since 1976. and we get to see a lot of what is wrong with it right here.
“Why would you expect petty local Democrats to behave better than national Democrats?”
True dat.
Shorter hudson: (last sentence) “The problem with the Democratic Party is that most actual Democrats think I’m a huge asshole.”
To all the people crowing of huge Republican victories in Erie County, the last time I checked, the people of Erie County just elected more Democrats to the county legislature than they did Republicans…..
The “problem” is not just local, and likely not merely caused by Erie County Dem turf wars.
The incumbent Westchester County Executive, who beat his GOP challenger by 16 points last time around, lost to a Repub by the same margin this Tuesday. Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi–who has some bona fides in the struggle against NYS mandates–is in a dead heat which will be resolved by the absentee count.
Erie County and those wealthy downstate counties are separated by geography and demographics, yet the Dems had misfortunes in both places. Getting Lenihan and Brown to play nice may not change the big picture.
bizzare…byron now so full of hate he has to go to lengths and links. unemployment reached it’s highest level in 26 years yesterday, a muslim anti-war protester murdered 13 american soldiers on american soil the day before that, more soldiers died in iraq and afghanistan this week, prisoners are still being held in the gitmo concentration camp, nancy pelosi’s obamacare bill contains provisions that would put those refusing to buy insurance in prison for up to five years, the senate’s not even going to take up health care “reform” until january and byron’s still a fascist little asshole.
“actual democrats.” that’s too funny for words.
@ Mike Hudson – I’ve got an addition to your “Blame Obama” list….Sabres lost 5-2 to the hated Flyers. Damn Obama and his promises of a new beginning!
@Hudson- ‘Anti-war’ protester? How does participating in a jihad make one ‘anti-war’? An extremist shooting up an army base has NOTHING to do with the peace movement.
