George Maziarz On Gay Marriage

A constituent explains in eloquent detail why same-sex marriage is so important to her and her wife.

I thought Maziarz’s reaction & answer was fine.  He’s against it, he’s voting against it, that’s the way it goes.  You just can’t get every politician to vote the way you want, no matter how eloquent you are.

What disappointed me was the reaction of the crowd in the audience.  What moral horror do those two women represent?

If all of these people are so concerned about the sanctity of marriage, then people who have been divorced should be denied a marriage license.  Let them applaud that.

To his credit, Maziarz tried to shut the applause down, realizing (a) that it was a shitty thing to do; and/or (b) that the whole thing was being videotaped.

    I think it’s silly that people have an issue with homosexuals getting married. It doesn’t harm anyone, let alone the people who are complaining about it. I think it’s a case where the politicians are forgetting the whole “separation of church and state.” The fact that citizens are still up in arms trying to stop it tells me that too many people can’t handle living their own lives so they feel they have to try to mess up someone else’s

    It was nice to watch two individuals with strong personal (opposing) convictions express them with civility and without demagoguery. They set an example for some other folks in the room. Maziarz was not willing to accept the woman’s position, but he obviously respected her as a sincere individual.

    agreed. but the fact remains that gop politicians coming out in favor of same-sex marriage lose elections, and dem politicians representing conservative catholic (read hispanic) districts do too.

    this 40 years after stonewall.

    This a real shame; oppressive freedom-hating bigots like Maziarz should be treated like their Eastern Bloc brethren 20 years ago. Hatred and tyranny are at their very roots uncivil and there is no room for civil discourse with them or their disciples.
