He represented the Buffalo area for a long time before his jump to the national scene. He was the type of conservative Republican you seldom see active in politics anymore.
He was a Reaganite big tent Republican who stuck by his supply-side economic beliefs and social conservatism without demonizing those who did not share them. He believed in lifting people out of poverty and a progressive urban policy. Contemporary politicians should endeavor to be more like he was. Kemp will be missed.
