So based on the creative, funny and interesting responses to my, “What would you ask Sarah Palin?” question….I decided that it would be fun to post questions regularly.

Today….it’s all about the recent government report that women under 50 do not need to have mammograms and that breast self examination is a waste of time.

Is this reliable medical information or a way for the health care industry to cut costs?

I have watched, with some interest, the Rogue book tour of Sarah Palin begin to unfold.

In catching sound bite moments between Palin and interview icons such as Oprah and Barbara Walters, their questions and her answers leave me somewhat wanting. So, I’m asking you….if you could sit across the table from Sarah Palin….what one burning question would you want her to answer?

Buffalo Re-Defines Extreme Home Makeover

It was a week of endless wonder, amazing teamwork, exhausting labor and a certain amount of public skepticism as ABC’s Extreme Home Makeover Show came to Buffalo.

The Powell Family’s Massachusetts Avenue home was the lucky makeover site and WNY’s own David Home Builders answered the Extreme Home Makeover project call. They, in turn, partnered with AmeriCorps, Buffalo ReUse, PUSH, City of Buffalo Officials and a host of corporate and independent businesses who donated materials, employees, equipment and time to make the dream makeover happen in 7 short days.

Yet was the project good for the WNY Community and Buffalo’s west side neighborhood? Or when the big city-bright lights of Exteme Home Makeover were finally extinguished, did the neighborhood and its well-known problems resurface in the darkness?

Buffalostyle Extreme Home Make Over Update

In preparing for Saturday’s live Buffalostyle broadcast (8-10am 1230 WECK AM Radio) from the Extreme Home Makeover, I have been at the site everyday this week.

It’s been quite an amazing experience to watch not only the rebirth of the Powell Family’s home but of the entire Massachusetts Ave neighborhood surrounding that house. Truly, for anyone who thinks that this is just about one house and one family, you need to get down to this extreme makeover and see how this entire neighborhood is getting scrubbed, fixed, painted and planted.

HUGE KUDOS to David Homes, Americorps, PUSH and Buffalo ReUse for partnering with the legions of local trades and businesses in making a neighborhood new….and putting such a positive face on Buffalo for the rest of the nation to witness.

My sources at the site say that Extreme Home Makeover has NEVER seen a makeover effort like this one happening right here in our own hometown.

Join in the fun beginning at 8am as I chat with–

David Homes-owner of the construction company building the house.

Michael Gainer-Program Director for Buffalo ReUse who worked to deconstruct and recycle the original house.

Mayor Byron Brown –for the inside scoop on what it took to get this project up and running and keep it moving forward.

AmeriCorps-who has provided countless volunteers to build the extreme home as well as accomplish renovations throughout the neighborhood.

Zoe Hollomon of the Massachusetts Ave Project–a not for profit that has provided long running support for this West Side neighborhood.

Fletch–a full time security guard for the Extreme Makeover Crew who travels around the country doing his job.

AND…..some surprise guest stars of the EXTREME kind!!

Chicken Wing Wisdom

A couple of years back, I penned my first book under the title of, Chicken Wing Wisdom. (www.chickenwingwisdom.com)

The book turned into a local best seller and afforded me the added benefit of becoming an invited speaker for a number of women’s groups.

Next week I will return to the 20th Century Club to update them on Chicken Wing Wisdom and I would like to write a new story to share.

So if you know of a WNY woman who has taken her personal sense of wisdom and paired it in some way with food to make a difference in her life, our community and even the world…..please let me know. She could become the newest Chicken Wing Wisdom Woman!
