So, we have a $15,000,000,000 budget shortfall looming for 2009. We have an absurd budget proposed by the Governor which features plans to tax your purchases from iTunes and your bottle of loganberry. The Governor didn’t have the stones to make significant cuts in the operating budget beyond what he could transfer to localities which will inevitably lead to higher property taxes and sales taxes around the state.
Why the huge shortfall? Because the primary means of tax revenue generation in New York State, the capitalist pig dogs of Wall Street, have collapsed upon themselves and have no blood left to give to the ever hungry public teat suckers of the SEIU, CSEA, AFSCME and others.
The choice for Paterson is simple, either hike taxes on what revenue sources are left (us) or cut spending to the bone. Since this is New York, cutting the budget is not a realistic option, so we ended up with a huge tax increase. How about a third option? Why not write some legislation which would result in new taxable entities and products?
