NYS Unemployment Hotline Crashes

If your looking for a  sign of a recession, look no further than the NYS Department of Labor.

Earlier today the automated hotline used to claim benefits crashed due to high call volume. A spokesperson for the department says the hotline was taking in more than 10,000 call an hour:

This morning, the Unemployment Insurance call center telephone number (888) 209-8124 and on-line claims system, experienced an unexpected but temporary shut down due to high volume of calls (over 10,000 per hour) and claims into the system. Our technical staff are working hard to fix the problem but at this time we do not have a timeframe as to when the phone and on-line claims systems will be operational. Please remember that you have until Sunday to file a new claim for this week. Periodic updates will be given regarding the status of the telephone call center number.
