Powershift in Albany Should Leave Volker Half Staffed

As the Senate shifts from republican control, this article in the New York Times begs the question, Why did Dale Volker ever a staff of 16 and a budget of more than $700,000:

“They’re petrified,” said Senator Dale M. Volker, a Republican from Buffalo. “They know I’m going to have to get rid of a lot of them.” Mr. Volker guessed that he would have to trim his staff of 16 full- and part-time employees by about half. “It’ll be difficult, very difficult,” he said. “For the staff, it’s hard for them to even imagine.”
