Put 2 and 2 Together… Get a Pigeon

How is this for damage control…

First you have this story in today’s Buffalo News which is just another example of how much of a “scumbag” player Steve Pigeon is:

“We couldn’t afford a mailing,” Meegan said last week of her 2007 election. “We had no money.”

Meegan said she had no idea who was behind the mailing, even though it carried a return address for one of her campaign workers, former town employee William Callahan.

Two years after failing to report its expenses in that election, a political committee run by former county Democratic Chairman G. Steven Pigeon has owned up to the mailing — sort of.

Followed by a letter to the editor from none other than Florida resident and steve pigeon’s lover Tom Golisano:

Why are we suing our opponents? Because we’ve had enough.

There is really only one allegation against us and the media recycle it again and again. The charge is that Responsible New York — or the people associated with it — somehow coordinated our election efforts with particular candidates. This is categorically untrue and there is no evidence or credible claim to support it.

Then you have pigeon supported butt buddy and felon Joe Illuzzi coming to his defense almost on cue:

Yet another Sunday front page vacuous diatribe directed at former Erie County Democratic Chairman Steve Pigeon. Something about a mailing in a local race two years ago, who cares really. Does it get anymore foolish.

It is worth repeating the Buffalo News has gone “all in” in the News desperate attempt to embarrass this guy. Let me make the point again even if Pigeon had done what reporters Bob “where is the bar” McCarthy & Mike Beebee have reported over the last two months the absolute worse outcome for Pigeon would be a violation & a very small fine. & guess what 90% of the people in this business do it one way or another. The best we can do is declare an amnesty & rewrite the election laws.

Not only has the News breached every canon of ethics that guide the industry; readers this just makes no sense its a travesty! The Buffalo News endorses Assemblyman Sam Hoyt who had sex with a student intern & is attempting to destroy Steve Pigeon for what the News claims is minor violations of the election laws. ###

    Marc,

I think it’s obvious that about 99% of WNYers want Pigeon to be investigated and whacked. But most of us don’t know HOW to be heard in Albany.

We have a Governor with an incredibly low approval rating who knows he could do himself and us a favor by appointing a special counsel. But, I think Paterson is looking for WNY to come out in a huge grassroots way to make it appear that WE are calling for this. It can’t look contrived. Remember that his opponent in the next election is the Attorney General. He has to play this smart.

You are a journalist and a media expert. I pose to you the question: How does this get done effectively? Social Networking? Online Petitioning? Bulk email to the Gov? Polls? What? And…who knows how to do it?

Articles are not enough. Have you noticed that the Albany Times Union or the NYC papers don’t mention any of this stuff since the time Mark Sacha came out with his statement?

Sorry to put you on the spot, but I think we are looking for a leader and means to communicate this to all of New York, especially Albany and the Governor. Got any ideas? Can you get it going?

  2. Whacking would be easier!

Thanks for your interesting comment. I agree, articles have little effect at this point for such an entrentched figure like steve pigeon.

I think a combination of all those things you mentioned could be moderately effective. Simply asking the Governor next time he is in town might be a good start too. Problem is even if he is found guilty of this stuff, its a minor violation and a small fine. The greater damage is usually done after his candidates make it into office.

To my knowledge no one from the media has asked Governor Paterson to go on the record about this guy. So that would be a start.

Its something we will definitely be brainstorming about in the upcoming weeks and as we get our new political PAC up and running.

Although I almost agree with andreas; whacking would be much easier indeed :-)
