I covered the construction so now it was finally time to try out the place. The interior is really high quality in case you haven’t already heard and the service was very good (my friends and i were one of only a handful of customers so I would expect so).
The Irish aren’t known for cullinary masterpieces so I wasn’t expecting too much. I had the fish and chips that had a great dark beer batter, the fish itself was pretty good and the fries were good too. The coleslaw was awful though.
My friends ordered a reuben and a pannini and both were content-not amazed-with their choices.
So decent food, good service, and really good ambiance. Not bad for what was an abandoned loading dock a year ago.
Oh by the way: They show all the Notre Dame games from a large flat screen TV on Saturdays…although this might not be the year to watch Notre Dame football. But it is the year to try out Morrissey’s.

I ate there last Friday and the food was wonderful. I had the Bangers and Mash and it was delicious. My fiance had the Reuben and she loved it as well. They have good drink specials for happy hour and give out snacks for happy hour as well. We will definitely be going back there for drinks and dinner very soon. I definitely recommend dining W.J. Morrissey’s
Hey Mark…
You got any fresh insight on what’s doing with the Cobblestone Lofts project next door? That would be such a sweet address and location to live in and I’ve got check in hand waiting to buy a unit there. Yet every time I check in with Savarino, they tell me they’ve filed condo docs with the state and it is taking a while… that has been the party line for a year and a half now.
Since you’re the downtown development guy maybe you know something? If my downtown condo plans ever come to fruition you’ll be invited to the housewarming for sure!
I am originally from England and moved here about 15 years ago and was so excited to eat at Morrissey’s for a bangers and mash meal or a full irish breakfast. Unfortunately when my wife and I went on a Friday afternoon (2pm) there was no cook, but we weren’t told about that until we tried to order a steak and the poor waitress asked us if we could order something “easier” so she could make it as the cook left after lunch and wouldn’t be back until 4pm…which really shocked, surprised and pissed me off. But at the same time the waitress was so naive and apologetic that my wife and I enjoyed our experience. I won’t mention my actual “food” experiece as it wouldn’t be fair to the restaurant since there was no cook/chef making it, since it was NOT good at all. But I will give it one more try, at least for the full Irish breakfast, I just wish it was open earlier than 11:30 for “breakfast”. Good luck to the owners, I truly mean that, but if I have another experience like the last I can guarantee I wont be back and many, many MANY other people wouldn’t either once I inform them too. So here’s to looking forward to a pleasurable next experience.
