Mark completed his B.A. in Environmental Design at SUNY Buffalo in 2009. He has been blogging since 2005 about issues surrounding urban development in the Buffalo area while also sharing his thoughts and experiences from his travels around the Western Hemisphere. Canal Side Landscaping 2.21.08


I hate that they use green but other than that the font styles are a real good 1800’s-industrial look, the glass photographs look real good too…although these interpretations sounded really tacky and cluttered when discussed I think they are starting to come together and make good sense as a whole as this project. If significant retail ever becomes a reality I think this will be quite the urban retail experience…even better than Baltimore’s (?)

    looks pretty desolate. It has a long way to go before you can mention this place in the same breath as Baltimore inner harbor.

    well it is a fenced-off construction site still…so i assume it will be less desolate once its actually open

    The interpretation panels look great but that towering faux brick wall has to go. I can’t believe a panel of “experts” in their field would have approved this junk. A small panel next to the building’s remains can show visitors what the building was like woithout being intrusive. I guess it would look OK if Disneyland Buffalo was part of the master plan.
    And will this ever get finished – only government agencies could afford to drag construction projects like this.
