Battle Brewing in Albany with Gov and Assembly

Whew, sparks will be flying it appears when they all meet in a joint session. What’s with Silver taking away the gavel from LG David Paterson ?

Capitol confidential » 142-0 (Updated)

The Assembly voted unanimously in favor of a calling joint meeting of the Legislature tomorrow to fill the vacancy in the office of state comptroller.

It looks like the Assembly Republicans had no interest in being steamrolled by Gov. Eliot Spitzer and instead chose to side with the Democratic majority on this balance of power question.

Seven legislators were “excused for other reasons:” Boyland, Cahill, Carrozza, Galef, Lavine, Schimminger, and Walker.

The Assembly will be in at 1:45 p.m., I’m told. The Senate is scheduled to join the Assembly at 2 p.m.

UPDATE: A motion will reportedly be made tomorrow to give control of the gavel at the joint session to Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, D-Manhattan, not LG David Paterson.
