Buffalo among 'fastest-dying' cities in US

Buffalo fastest dying city… Wow, another award to further lower our view from around the country… Why? POLITICS, that’s why. Who has controlled this city for years? Think about it and be honest with yourself and try not to point fingers. Just think long and hard as to why we continue down the black hole into the abyss.

Beside the fact the Albany smothers us with mandates we have a corrupt political system, a corrupt school system and a society that has become more and more dependent upon government to sustain them as businesses have left because of taxes, mandates, insurance costs, regulations, etc, etc, etc, etc….. It is and has been and endless cycle with no real end insight.

Look what happens when we try to get our politicians to respond to the ever growing costs of government. A simple thing of taking cars away from employees that keep them 24-7 and WE pay for everything including gasoline and insurance. The unions yell and scream take it to court and then the court says they are right and we can’t take away cars because past practice now has become a union privilege and perk. What a bunch of crap. And of course the mayor himself needs his car and driver to drive him everywhere including to political events long after the work day is done.

We have a council that just looks at how they can help the people by giving them a fish everyday instead of teaching them how to fish. But we are beyond that point, there is not enough jobs here to sustain the population. The only businesses that are coming here are ones that are bribed by our politicians with tax breaks and as soon as those are gone they leave, unless of course they are bribed again. When the largest employers are government, government, government and grocery stores it is time to admit we are completely upside down.

Now we actually have efforts to downsize government… Great idea, I have been advocating this for years but will it happen? It will if WE THE PEOPLE demand it. But as we have seen the politicos don’t like the idea, they refuse to give up their jobs and perks, besides after 5 years most of them are vetted in the pensions. We have layer after layer of government and layer after layer, after layer in the school districts. All are killing us with their pensions, health care, patronage jobs, did I say PATRONAGE jobs?

How many people here collect SSI, food stamps, welfare, heap, Medicaid, Medicare, or get other perks from the government? just curious…just curious as to the ratio per capita vs other cities across this country.

The school system costs us better than 25 grand a year yet they have a failure rate that is higher than the success rate. Unions control every Democrat politician in this state them along with trial lawyers are a huge burden on our backs. It is time to revamp or over throw this corrupt system if we are ever to get back on track.

Forbes: Buffalo among ‘fastest-dying’ cities in US — Newsday.com

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Buffalo has made Forbes magazine’s list of what it calls the nation’s 10 fastest-dying cities.

According to an article in Forbes’ new issue, New York state’s second largest city qualifies for the publication’s list because of its declining population and slow economic growth. The article says old manufacturing cities such as Buffalo are in rougher shape than ever and still looking for something to replace their factories and mills.

Buffalo is the only city in New York to make the list. Ohio leads the way with four _ Youngstown, Dayton, Canton and Cleveland _ followed by Michigan with two, Detroit and Flint.

(Buffalo-Niagara Falls, N.Y., metropolitan statistical area)

Migration (since 2000): -51,302

Total population change: -41,926

June 2008 Unemployment: 5.7% (2000 average: 4.3%)

Annualized GDP growth: 1.9%

Buffalo has long been synonymous with city-in-decline. In the early 1900s, Buffalo was one of America’s 10 largest cities, a burgeoning industrial center. It’s been on decline ever since, despite a location that takes advantage of trade with Canada. Buffalo is home to M&T Bank and the Delaware North Companies–one of the major operators of stores in airports.
