I’m sure that most have you have been following BuffaloPundit’s adventures at the Democratic Convention and some of you are perhaps listening to WNYMedia.net’s streaming coverage from the convention floor. They’re doing a fantastic job, proving once again that our little alternative media outlet is providing more hard news than our newspaper of record or the local TV stations.
While they are doing a great job, I can’t but help thinking about how unseemly all of this is.
The convention is essentially a coronation of Eliot Spitzer and it’s disturbing to watch the party wankers attempt to curry favor from our presumptive Governor at various events around the city. Isn’t anyone else troubled by this process? I haven’t yet decided which candidate I’m going to vote for in the primary but, it appears it doesn’t really matter. Spitzer has gobbled up the money and critical union endorsements so the election becomes a fait accompli.
I don’t want to vote for Spitzer. Cruising about his website, I don’t see one concrete plan for how he intends to acomplish anything. All I see are pictures of him gladhanding every party mook from Buffalo to Manhattan and lots of non-specific program ideas. These programs also cost an assload of money and he makes nothing but vague allusions as to how we will pay for them.
However, I visit Tom Suozzi’s website and I see well-laid plans for New York State. I see a guy who understands the problems of Upstate NY and has laid out a program of tax cuts, union reform, and public workforce reduction while alleviating the burdens on businesses who wish to operate in New York. He has a solid track record but lacks the endorsement of the SEIU and guys like Len Lenihan.
I guess I want to know, does Spitzer honestly represent reform to you? Do we really want our elections decided before they even happen? Do we really want to allow the unions and party bosses to make our choices for us?
To me, the Spitzer coronation is everything that is wrong with New York State.

As far as I’m concerned, Spitzer is apparently coasting to a victory based on his perceived “good” job as AG. I personally find his record as Attorney General quite troubling and his actions bordering on extortion in many cases. I’m very concerned that he thinks government programs and regulations are the cure-all for what ails the State. I could not, in good conscience, pull the lever for Spitzer.
As Attorney General he should be above politics. I find it quite troubling that he used his office to push his gubernatorial campaign.
Spitzer = More of the same
I can’t believe the hack Dems are so pathetic and bereft of any ideas or leadership that they couldn’t even give Suozzi a chance to articulate his issues, issues that should be discussed at a so-called POLITICAL CONVENTION!
This is SO gross!
I feel like I need a shower.
But it IS 100 degrees in the convention hall.
Erie County’s Dem Party Politics is apparently just a microcosym of the Statewide Party’s “mock democracy”. The People need to understand that they need to take back the power from the “machine operators” and make decisions on governance based on past performance, leadership, and solid plans for changing the sop in NY.
Even if Spitzer was a great AG (and yes, opinions may differ), he was a State wide Prosecutor; that doesnt mean he has the organizational or political will to be a great Governor. Souzzi has the “chops” from being a County Exec; Weld has the ‘chops’ from being Gov of Mass.
Now (with his strong union support) Spitzer has the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to flood us with visions of his Passion… so he will be able to buy the seat.

Money talks. Hopefully experience will speak louder. We need someone with a clue in there.
