Meet football road tripper extraordinaire Adam Goldstein from the U.K.

Peter, Andrew, Gary and Adam sharing road trip stories in Toronto

Every now and then we happen upon yet another road warrior experiencing the awe and wonder of traveling all over and visiting our hallowed sports venues.

Adam Goldstein is yet another one of these travel masters. Hailing from London, England, Adam took four months off from his job, his girlfriend and his life back home to criss cross the United States (and *ahem*, one game in Canada we know which that one was) to attend a home game of each NFL team in their home stadiums. Doubling up in a couple places (and actually heading back to England in October to catch the NFL contest at Wembley), his total tally for the 2008 season will be 35 NFL games… that, in a 17 week season. Not too shabby!

We caught up with Adam for breakfast in Toronto this past Sunday (along with our good bud Gary Herman from NYC who was in town as well for the big game). Sharing stories and comparing notes with Adam, we agreed on a lot of things…for example, that Lambeau Field in Green Bay was one of the superb NFL experiences, that Gillette Stadium in Foxboro had some of the best architecture.

What surprised us the most was that the Buffalo Bills front office actually rolled out the red carpet for Adam when he visited here for the Bills/Browns Monday night game last month. Not generally known for their fan friendliness, Bills staffer Andy Major (we think that’s the name) took Adam for a tour of the stadium, introduced him to media types like Vic Carucci and Steve Tasker, and did the obligatory “photos with cheerleaders’ down on the field. Props to the Bills!!! For guys like Adam, it’s little things like this that will make the Buffalo experience stand out in his mind once he returns home, and the stories he shares through his many media experiences will bode well for our organization.

Adam also gave props to Bills fans for the awesome tailgate experience (no surprise we all know that), and for their passion for the team. He could totally feel the hurt and the disappointment when that game ended so badly for the Bills.

Sorry if this sounds arrogant or snooty, but we road trippers are a special fraternity, and we applaud Adam for making the sacrifice and taking the trouble to do such an ambitious project. We know what it’s like, the good and the bad, and once finished, he will have made new friends and contacts and great memories which will sustain him for the rest of his life.

Adam has a neat website which you can access here.

We definitely have the United Kingdom in our long term planning horizon and will look forward to reconnecting with Adam in London. We told Adam that we follow the Wolverhampton Wolves soccer team and plan a trip to Molineux Stadium to see them play as well. He sort of rolled his eyes and snickered. But memo to Adam… by the time we get your way, the ‘Wolves will be back in and tearing up the Premier League, and we will be saying “look who’s laughing now!”
