Riverkeeper is pleased to announce the open registration of its Spring 2012 Semester of its popular River Academy course in partnership with Erie Community College. River Academy is a comprehensive training course that provides an introduction to our Niagara River watershed through Saturday morning classes in stream science.
The River Academy program features local experts sharing their passion for Niagara River hydrology, geology, ecology, contamination issues, land use impacts, restoration project design, mapping, stream assessment and more. Sessions will include field trips and hands-on workshops. Participants will receive a certificate upon graduation.
River Academy provides a unique opportunity for professionals seeking to deepen their understanding of Niagara watershed issues, students in need of hands-on field experience, teachers seeking professional development, and all other fans of our waterways.
Riverkeeper has partnered with Erie County Community College to provide this program and course credits are available to participating students. ECC course credits are fully transferable to most SUNY schools.
River Academy classes will be held from 6pm – 7:20pm on Thursday evenings and 9am-12:15pm on Saturday mornings at the Riverkeeper office and field locations. The course will run from January 19-May 12, 2012. Students not seeking course credit may attend Saturday sessions only.
