In Buffalo, one St. Patrick’s Day parade is simply not enough.

On Saturday, March 17 at noon, camp out at the corner of South Park Ave. and Hamburg St. for the best view of the “Old Neighborhood” St. Patrick’s Day Parade. With ironworkers, family clans, Irish dancers and bagpipers weaving their way through the historically Irish First Ward neighborhood, this is a lively working man’s parade. A veteran parade-watcher’s tip: do some carb-loading at my favorite bakery, Mazurek’s, which is just a block from the action.

The larger of the two parades takes place the next day, Sunday, March 18, at 2 p.m. Beginning in Niagara Square, this parade works its way north along Buffalo’s stately Delaware Ave. Opportunities for revelry abound along the parade route, since it crosses both Chippewa St. and Allen St., which each boast their fair share of bars.
