Black families are dysfunctional if you read and believe a white newspaper. Mitt Romney, a presidential candidate for the Republican Party, is trumpeting the same tune. At the same time, neither the media nor Romney is offering any solutions including the relationship of any cause and effect.
Blacks, before 1865, did not come to the country as “families” nor did they come to this country as “immigrants”. If the family is the basic unit in a society, no one has measured the consequences of no basic unit existing amongst Blacks for at least two hundred fifty years at best. The harm has been irreparable.
On Black talk radio on Wednesday, a caller, apparently born in the United States, was complaining about the attitudes of Haitians toward Blacks in the United States. The parents of a second caller were born in Africa. They are now naturalized “citizens”. According to him, his parents view Blacks in the United States as lazy and unwilling to take advantage of educational opportunities.
Most Black immigrants, prior to 1965, came to the United States from the Caribbean. Most of them avoided apartheid in the South. If experience is the best teacher, they never learned anything about Jim Crow, at best, and peonage at worst. They acquired a different perception of whites. Police departments, in the North, were reluctant to employ terrorist tactics before the 1960′s. The KKK ruled the South.
The outcome of the Civil Rights Movement gave a new face to the United States even if the body remained the same. What you do not see is what you get in the United States. Despite what you see, a “hidden hand” controls the United States. It would help if all “immigrants” were required to “study” Black history before they set foot in the United States. The Civil Rights Movement is also responsible for the Immigration Act of 1965.
Before 1868, it was illegal, by definition, for a Black family to exist in the United States. Afterwards, there were many restrictions on the formation of a Black family in the United States including sharecropping in the South and welfare in the North. The landowner controlled everything on the land. Every Black tenant on the land was “indebted” to the white landowner. Blacks are experts on deficit -spending.
White paternalism still exists in New York. There is mayoral control of public schools. All parents have been disenfranchised and the New York City’s school system is overwhelmingly Black and Latino. Whites decide what Black and Latino children “think”. Dennis Walcott is only a figurehead. “Black faces in high places” is always a tell-tale sign of trouble.
Public schools are supposed to prepare children for life. The Black and Latino expectancy about adult life is far different from that of whites. The prison-industrial complex and “stop and frisk”, among other things, are not in the cards for whites. Whites not only enjoy racial preferences but also nepotism.
Freedom Retreat for Boys and Girls was established in 1994 to give our children survival skills including a knowledge of the law and an appreciation for Black history and culture. These subjects are not taught to Black children although, when they appear in court in handcuffs, they are presumed to know the law.
In addition to “stop and frisk”, the changing relationships of Black parents and Black children must be examined on Sunday. A formula will be unveiled on Sunday to not only strengthen the Black family but, unwittingly or wittingly, it will guarantee four more years for President Barack Obama.
In a letter dated August 6, 2012, “Black Agenda 2012” demanded that “Here and Now” discuss presidential politics on Sunday, August 12, 2012. Alternatively, it should discuss gun violence in the Black community. Arts and entertainment should not be an option.
On Saturday, August 11, 2012, Sandra Bookman, host of “Here and Now” advertised that it would discuss gun violence on Sunday. On the same day, Carolina Leid, host of “Tiempo” advertised that it would discuss presidential politics on Sunday. Dave Davis, WABC-TV’s general manager, is calling the shots.
It is apparent that WABC-TV had made a pact for leading Blacks to keep quiet while it dismantled African history and culture after the demise of “Like It Is”. Leading Blacks had obviously represented to him that it could keep all Blacks in check especially since they were unaware of their media rights.
WABC-TV is well aware that Blacks must be kept in check politically in 2012. Black momentum in 2012 must be curtailed. Electoral politics, and especially in 2013, in New York City is a matter of concern for national security. Ireland, Israel and Italy would be concerned about a non-white takeover of Gracie Mansion.
So far, Black selected officials have been kept away from “Here and Now”. This will not be the case for white elected officials on “Meet the Press”, “Face the Nation”, “This Week” and “Fox News Sunday” on August 12. Nonetheless, the demand of “Black Agenda 2012” for presidential politics on this Sunday was timely.
Expected Republican nominee for president, Mitt Romney, has picked Cong. Paul Ryan as his choice for vice-president. Ryan has indicated that he has no intention of helping Blacks survive this economic crisis. He is from Wisconsin which has a strong German heritage. He is also the Congressman for Oak Creek. He demonstrated no sympathy for the Sikhs.
The next meeting for “Friends of Like It Is” is on Saturday, September 15, at the Cotton Club, 656 West 125th Street in Harlem. “Friends of Like It Is” is seeking a quorum. Afterwards, it is seeking someone to steer the ship. In the interim, there is a needed trust fund to keep the pressure on WABC-TV.
The online education, which includes daily articles, is free. The costs come out of my “empty pockets”. New York Amsterdam News will be published again on August 16. The nominal fee for the lecture on Saturday, September 15 will help defray the cost of research, typing, editing and writing of the daily articles. It also helps finances “Friends of Like It Is.”
Too honest for the White Press and too black for much of today’s Black Press; bullet columnist Alton Maddox upsets the same people and status quo as he did as an uncompromising Defense Attorney.
